There are 3 possible engine options for the '96, u said it's not the turbo (F 2.0L MFI Turbo DOHC), that leaves the G 2.4L MFI SOHC or the Y 2.0L MFI DOHC, I'm interested in which engine you have. The 2 possible engines have different locations of the crank pos sensor. My info came from a auto parts website. I would also like to ask that u consider changing the rating to a 'thanks for trying' which I feel is more accurate than 'inappropriate.' Thanks for your time.

SOURCE: crankshaft position sensor location

Hello. One way to check if it is working is when you try to start the car does the needle move on you tac? If not then your crank sensor is more then likely the problem. It is located on the backside of the engine under the intake manifold. If is in about the center of the block. There will be a 10mm bolt holding the sensor in. If you decide to change it yourself (not to terrible of a job) unplug the sensor, remove the bolt and spin it back and forth slightly while pulling it out. It may be stoburn and you might have to work at it for a little bit (not a done of room) but it will come. When it's out the sensor will be shaped kind of like an L. I have changed a few of these over time and they can be a little stoburn. To install just reverse the process.

Location of crankshaft position sensor for 2003 pt cruiser

Had this problem. The crankshaft position sensor (on 2003 non-turbo) is located directly under the starter. The Haynes and Chilton books will tell you the complete opposite. They state that it is located near the alternator. WRONG. Oh, it is really a pain to get to FYI.
