It can be issue with gears or problem with transmission and needs to be rebuild. Also get the tranny fluid checked. If its low, then such problems occurs. you need a new reverse gear. the rest of your transmission should be fine but it will need to be rebuilt because you probably have pieces of the reverse gear floating around in it. it will eventually ruin the transmission if you don't fix it soon.
Chances are is that the torque converter needs to be replaced. However, the transmssion on this vehicle are only serviceable by transmision shops. No regular mechanic will open up the transmission. When the torque converter fails (clutch and plates shutters to small pieces) the debri flows in the transmision thereby potentially destroying the gears and/or clogging the filter and pump. Go straight to a reputable transmission shop and let them correctly diagnose the transmission.
check fluid if it is a dark color and stinks transmissions probably needs rebuilt sounds like low reverse or direct clutch is bad trna will still go into loe by using forward clutch if low reverse is bad shoul be having problems with 3rd or direct in forward if forward clutch is bad
Has the Transmission fluid been changed every 30,000 with Honda ATF-Z1?
If some one has put in GM Dexron III in it instead, the transmission may not shift properly and it can damage the transmission over time.
Also if some Express/Quick Lub place has flushed your Honda Transmission Dexron III or any type of Flushing agents, it's probally going to have to be replaced. Google "flushing Honda transmission" or MSN under "Express lub Transmission flush Fraud". Those back flow flushers systems damage the internal valves of many modern transmissions, both import and domestic and have NEVER been recommended.
Suggest taking it by a Honda Dealership or a aftermarket Honda/Acura ASE Certified Shop.
