The pump is connected to the cam belt and is very tricky you could do a lot of damage if you set the timing wrong. when is the timing belt due for changing it would be done then or get it done now and save money incase you run out of water and blow your head gasket

How do i remove timing belt cover on 2000 toyota camry 4 cylinder 2.2 litre? i notice the securing bolts around the perimeter. do i access some of these from the wheel bay?

See here for info, p26 and 242.

This is for an earlier year model, but is for the 2.2L engine.

You will have to remove the crank pulley, timing belt covers and timing belt, for best access. Unless it is fairly new, I would replace the belt wile you are at it.

Do u have to change timing belt when u replace a water pump on 1993 camry

Depending on the amount of miles on your vehicle it may be time to service the timing belt. Personally if it was me and I had to replace the water pump I would probable replace the timing belt at the same time since the cost is minimal. You can always check it for wear and cracks when you take it apart.

I had 1998 toyota camry with 200,2100 mlies on it , about a few days ago started to leak engine oil, the mechanic say that it is from the engine seal , but at the same time he want to replace the water...

You have to find out where it leaks oil from, Because the water pump and timing belt has nothing to do with oil leaks or engine seals. Good luck

Water Leaking from belt side of engine on a 1996 Camry.

hi, is it just water? or does it look more like coolant? if just water, and seems to only leak when a/c or defrost is used, this would likely be the evaperator drain tube letting moisture out. this is normal. but if looks like coolant(reddish pink, or possibly green) this likely means you have a leaking water pump. the water pump is driven by timing belt which is located behind the timing cover directly behind the drive belts. if/when you go to get it repaired, the timing belt should be replaced at the same time. also, you may want to have the timing belt tensioner, and timing belt pulleys relpaced at this time as well, it's good insurance for any repairs that may be needed later down the road after service. make sure to have the drive belts checked when repairing timing belt, they will be removed during repair, if they need to be replaced due to wear, re-install new ones at no extra labor charge.

Leaking coolant from crank seal on 1991 toyota sr5 4x4 pick up. i figure the water pump has a seal gone behind timing cover and no other leaks it over heated today at highway speed .

THE WATER PUMP HAS A WEAP HOLE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE HOUSING THAT INDICATES PUMP FAILURE BY LEAKING WHEN THE PUMP NEEDS REPLACING. IT IS TIME TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP. IN ADDITION YOU MAY WANT TO REPLACE THE TIMING BELT AS WELL WHEN YOU REMOVE THE TIMING COVER AND CRANKSHAFT PULLEY. I HOPE THIS CLARIFIES ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR ANY COMMENTS YOU WISH TO SHARE. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. GOOD LUCK

Leaking water down the side of motor from the head gasket

it can possibly be a broken gasket seal in your water pump, i recommend that if this is the problem replacing the timing belt and water pump at the same time. i have a 1987 toyota camry station wagon as well and the same thing happen to me, if its leaking from teh side, its most likely the waterpump which is located underneath the alternator and attatched behind the timing belt

When to replace timing chain on 2003 Camry V6?

Replace the timing belt at 90,000 miles.

It will not damage the motor (bend the valves) if it breaks or jumps time

Finally, if you do change the belt, make sure that the water pump is inspected very close for any evidence of coolant seepage at the impeller shaft weep hole. If there is ANY evidence of wetness or leakage, replace the pump then. Easier to change the pump when the belt is off, than to have to do the whole job if the leak gets worse, and, if it leaks down the road, coolant on the timing belt will damage the belt, and you will have to buy a new belt, too. Change the plugs at 90 K miles, too.
