I had the same problem. I had the code checked and it was an emissions fault. It is caused by the gas cap not being put on correctly when filled up. I had the system reset ans the light has been gone since then. Put your cap on right!

U need to check to see why the light is on, it indicates a problem, even if the car still runs fine. You can have the codes read that are stored in the cars computer by most parts stores (they offer it as a free service). They will tell you the codes, ask what they mean and what u should do to correct the problem. Check it out soon, as u can end up with more problems to fix if u let this go w/out correcting it.

Yes as long as the light isn't flashing you would be fine to drive. But get it to a mechanic to have it scanned as soon as you can

My 2002 Hyundai Elantra Gt (2.0L)engine runs rough during low speed acceleration, but runs fine at highway speeds. I have changed fuel filter and spark plugs, but after engine is warm it still misfires...

The Hyundai online shop manual and my newly arrived Hyundai shop manual kept pointing to the coil as a possible problem. While preparing to check coil continuity I discovered the pigtail connected to the bottom of one of the coils was loose and the contacts were burned. This is the coil that supplies spark to plugs 1 & 4, the same ones that kept showing up each time the check engine light illuminated. After cleaning the contacts and making sure the pigtail was securely attached to the base of the coil I have had no further problems.

A random hazzard light

a service engine or check engine light. you have two choices either take it somewere to scan it for codes, or if it drives fine you can wait and see if the car does anything abnormal. if it runs fine for a while(week, month) you can reset the light by disconnecting both battery terminals from the battery . touch and hold the TERMINALS together for 10-15 seconds. MAKE SURE you do not touch the battery with the terminals. This will drain the remaining battery in the cables themselves and it clears the computer. Simply reconnect
