Question about 2005 Lexus RX330

1 Answer

Rear differential makes rumbling noise

The car has had all the Lexus owners manual recommended services.
all service maintenance was performed by a lexus dealership.
now they say the rear needs $2700 worth of repairs to the differential.
car is a 2005 RX 330 with 75,000 miles
has a tow package but at best has only towed a jet ski 3 times 50 miles each time.
is this a common problem for that car

    Alex,

Thank you for the advice. Lexus USA customer service agreed to repair the differential with a goodwill warranty.

That's GREAT. Now my next dilemma is this. Do I keep the car or trade/sell it. My concern is this. If it happened once, it'll happen again in another 75,000.

    What do you think?

Also, what is it you do for Lexus and are you at a Maryland dealership?

That is not a common problem. I work at a lexus dealership and can attest to that. If you complain loud enough the dealer should "goodwill" warranty that for you especially since you've been a good customer. lexus sells a great car and will allow the dealer to warranty it for you out of warranty at their discretion. your powertrain warranty should be 7yr /70,000

I work at a Lexus dealer in Indiana. You shouldn't have that problem again. I would use it as you always have. There is more strain on the transmission that the differential to pull loads. Im guessing your noise was an abberation. Lexus wont give you $2700 in work free if the don't think they make a great product and stand behind it.

Recommended service for your 2006 Honda Ridgeline:

Replace VTM-4 rear differential fluid: Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle speeds or trailer towing results in higher level of mechanical (shear) stress to fluid or frequently fully loaded. This requires differential fluid changes more frequently than recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If you regularly drive your vehicle under these conditions, have the differential fluid changed at 7,500 miles (12,000 km), then every 15,000 miles (24,000 km).

1999 Lexus RX300 left rear wheel has a rumbling noise sounds like cv joint or bearing its all wheel drive.

Spin that wheel by hand as fast as you can. If you can hear the noise coming from right behind the tire it's probably a wheel bearing.

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer and it is making a loud humming noise coming from the rear end. What could that be making the noise?

ok it could be two things. it could be rear wheel bearings or a rear diff. If its a high pitch wine then its worn gears in your differential. its needs serviced or replaced. If it more of a rumbling or grinding hum, coming only from one side or both) then there are bad wheel bearings.

Maintenance Required message on. Purchased

this light can come on even thought service is not actually due. if the service was performed and the light was not on at the time, sometimes you cannot reset them if they are not actually lit, or 99% of the time the technician forgets if the light was not on. stop by your shop and they can reset it for you in just a few moments, and for no charge. good luck!

Have 2005 Grand Cherokee, had oil changed as usual every 3000 miles they recommended a fuel induction service, rear differential service and power steering flush are these needed or what vehicle has 51000...

Most of that is not scheduled maintenance items. I would have your fuel filter replaced, if not done yet, it should be done every 20,000 miles. Alot of these places get a small commission for selling added services. I would go by the maintenance schedule in your owners manual.

Hi Im trying to do the periodic maintnance on a 2006 lexus rx400 h what does this consist of

Maintenance needed is always dependent on your car’s mileage and what service has been performed prior.

Your service manual will explain all that is needed at each maintenance interval.

You can download your maintenance manual from Lexus at…

What services should I receive from the dealer?

The best answer to your question is in the owner's manual.

If the car has not received regular maintenance as prescribed, all the regular maintenance up to and including the 100k mile service should be performed.

If no owner's manual, the best answer is to acquire one.

Maintenance schedule

The lexus 2004 RX330 owners maual doesn't have the maintenance schedule in it. No charts, no recommended replacement of parts, fluids. Where do I get the RX330 maintenance schedule? ...and not just at what mileage service is due!

My Maintenance Required light flashes

The light comes on if you've gone twice as far as is recommended since your last oil change.

You can reset it by holding the odometer button in, while turning the key from off to run (not start). Hold the button in until the light goes out. Then start it.

As for the rumbling, does it rumble when in park and the gas is pressed? What about neutral with the gas pressed?

Does the rumbling coincide with a sudden change in RPM? If so, this indicates it's a gear shift issue.
