Question about 1997 Ford Ranger SuperCab

Wont Start The truck is a 1997 Ford Ranger Manual Transmission2WD 4 cylinder and this morning it wouldnt start the starter relay on the fender would click but thats all, i was able to pop start it and drive it normal but i couldnt shut it down i replaced the relay on the fender but still nothing

    all i am getting is the same pop but the engine does not turn over

Could be the strater itself or bad connection to the starter from relay

With fords you have to have to battery tip top condition (a must).
Now when you refer to the starter solenoid, are you talking about the relay on the passenger side fender well. If so, start there.
With the starter wire or trigger wire disconnected, Start running your tests.
Find out if its something to do with the trigger wire or if it has to do with the relay.

Make sure you have voltage on the big red wire. Check for votage at the small wire when in the start position. If you do not have power at the small wire check the neutral safety switch or clutch switch for power in the start position. Sounds like one of those is your problem. You didn't state if you had an auto or manual trans. Good luck.

Starter wont stop spinning


The starter relay may be sticking on start. Get someone to start truck and when problem starts hit relay lightly wih hammer. A cheap voltmeter will tell you if relay is sticking or still energised from ingnition switch after key release from start position.

yes you need to replace the starter because most likely the seliniod is attached to the starter and you have to buy the whole thing
