Question about 1990 Toyota Celica
1990 celica 3s-ge i have changed the motor and got the new one out of a mr2. it wont idle properly and blows alot of black smoke and even smells a bit like un-burnt fuel out exhaust . is there any way i can get it to run a bit leaner cos its drinking the gas.thanks
Could be a number of different things.Fuel pressure relief valve not working, injector pulse too long,Is the air box lid securely fastened and air cleaner clean. Are there no leaks between the air box and throttle body(intake tube).Have you checked oxy sensor.air flow meter may be also possible.Try squeezing the flexible fuel hose enough to allow the engine to run and see if the engine reacts better if it does you have excessive fuel pressure.

i believe the engine is running too lean as if it was running too rich it would blow black smoke If it was blue smoke it is oil related eg valve stem seals, valve guides and or piston rings all of these things will create blue smoke if one of the above is worn out
