Hey corey, I too have the very same problem. My wife is very unhappy! But I think I have just stumbled onto the solution. It has to do with the erosion of the front cover of the 3.3 liter engine, where the water pump attaches, which causes the pump not to be able to circulate enough water through the heater core. Here is the link.

    I hope this helps.

My 1994 Grand Caravan was heating up prfoperly until just recently. I thought the thermostat had failed and replaced it to no avail. My water pump does not leak but perhaps this is the prblem. Clearly, there is no circulation to core as I removed both inlet and outlet hoses and started the vehicle warm to relieve possible "air bound" conditions. There was no flow from either hose and yet the engine remaikned functioning and cool? How much did this repair cost you as our van has over 200,000 miles currently and this may not eb worth it to me.

I have a 2002 Dodge Caravan. When I use the heater it will blow out warm/hot air but then the air turns cold for a minute or so, then back to warm and hot. Do you know what may be causing this?

I am wondering if your radiator is full. If the fluid is low the fluid will suck down then air gets in and then the water pump grabs hot fluid and shoots some through the lines hence the hot and cold. Try filling your rad and see if that helps.

My 1999 caravan is blowing cold air

Check the water Coolant level in the coolant reservoir and also remove the radiator cap, which tends not to be on the radiator any more and check it is full. Also burp the system by removing air licks buy sqeezing the radiator hoses when the system is hot. Remove the radiator cap before you do this. You also need to check the thermostat for correct operation as it might be stuck closed. Remove it, put it in a pot of warm water put it on the stove and you should see it open before it comes to a simmer.

Heater does not blow hot only cold air. Every so often the heater blows hot . When driving on freeway the heater works sometimes but turns cold when at red light.

Check the radiator level, if it low the hot coolant will not reach the heater. Second may be the water pump, as it wares the clearance increases and the efficiency goes way down and it cannot pump the coolant unless the engine revs are up.....

1994 Dodge Spirit heater blowing cold but radiator is overheating

1st you need to make sure no air in your system open you radaiator cap and your heater to max and see if air bubles or circulation is going on fill up accordingly otherwise you have blockage in your system or water pump if no circulation ////make sure no bubles all bubles should be gone////look for coolant circulation in your radiator make sure your thermostat is not defective or placed in the right position.

2001 Dodge Caravan heater blows cold air when stopped

Have you checked the coolant level? What you describe is exactly what happens if the coolant level is low. When stopped at idle, hot coolant is not circulating through the heater core, so no heat. As the engine increases in rpm's when you pull away from the light, the water pump is spinning quicker, and some coolant is making it to the heater core. So check the level, and if it is low, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again. That of course indicates a leak somewhere. Get it fixed, as overheating the engine leads to costly repairs and worse case a new engine. Let me know how you make out with this.

Engine overheats when heater pipes connected

I think you could be right about there being air trapped in the system.
Or the heater core(radiator) is plugged.
Either way you need a pressurized radiator coolant pump to put the coolant in without air being trapped.
Although,i have seen it done by jacking the vehicle up high enough that the radiator was now higher than the heater core level, and then the coolant was put in.
But this is dangerous to try.
