Question about 1985 Chevrolet Corvette

1 Answer

1985 4plus3 tranny

I have to shut the engine off before it will shift to 1st or reverse, in reverse it makes a real bad clunking noise. I have drained and refilled the tranny and overdrive pan. I have also drained and refilled the clutch resivore. It only has 35K on it. Is there an adjustment on the linkage on the clutch.

Your clutch might be worn, was any of the oil you changed somewhat metallic? Ive heard to check for a worn clutch: pull the car up to a tree, put a tire or some kind of cushion between the car and the tree put your car in its highest gear, give it gas and very slowly let your clutch out, if the clutch is good the car will shut down immediately.

Have some one ( with engine OFF) slowly shift from 1st to Reverse, YOU be out side and watch the linkage and tranny movement. WHAT you may have is loose bracket, tranny, or support bolts. bigAl

My 2000 model mazda protege makes a clunk when making sharp turns, accelerating or shifting from 1st to 2nd gear?

Sounds like a bad cv joint. Easy way to check is to raise the front of the vehicle so both front tires are off the ground. Use jack stands under the vehicle and block the rear tires. Start the engine and put the tranny in drive. Let the front wheels rotate while the engine is idling and turn the steering wheel slowly in both directions. Listen for the clunking noise. You may have to speed the engine up a little to make it work.

When i shift my automatic transmission from park to reverse or neutral to reverse there is a loud clunk

Either the u-joints are bad and that is what is clunking or the tranny fluid and filter need to be changed. usually it is the u-joints that clunk

2005 Corolla's manual trasmission shifts gears, it clunks

hi mate , sounds like the SPIGOT bearing its a little bearing that allows the gearbox to be at a different seed than the engine flywheel and if this is in bad condition it will take the gearbox front shaft to a higher speed than comfortable for gearshift , in the meantime when you go for 1st or reverse gear just engage a gear like 4th without taking your foot off the clutch and then go for 1st or reverse, this will stop the gearbox spining long enough for a smooth shif, oNLY USE THIS METHOD WHILE STaTIONARY and see a professional when you get time.

Transmission leaks, clunks into gear

Well your clunking noise is most likely the u-joints the leaking pan is the tranny pan what you would have to do is get a tranny kit and change the pan gasket tranny filter and fluid or take to a shop and have a tranny service done.

Transmission only has 1st and reverse 98 dodge ram 1500 5.9L 4X4

If you removed the radiator, the transmission cooler lines on the bottom would be the first place to check. Wouldn't take much to get a kink in the line, and a possible cause for your shifting problems. Best of luck to you.

Lost reverse, sluggish 1st gear

You will need to get the Tranny Shift Kit Inspected for Shifting Ball Slippage. Should not be a Big Repair unless it messed up the Clutches inside the Tranny.
