Question about 2002 Pontiac Grand Am
I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am and the service engine soon light just came on. The car has about 80,000 miles on it. I looked in the manual concerning this and it talked about the gas cap being loose. I tighten it but the light still stays on. Could something else be wrong? The light that is on is on the left panel of the speedometer.
My 2002 pontiac has the exact same problem. I took it to my trustworthy mechanic and he told me that there is three Oxygen sensors in the emissons system. This light came on when one of them went bad. He said it is no big deal to have one go out, however if the second one goes out the car will start missing and running rough. Keep an eye on the performance of your car and if it does not dimenish then you should be alright. Fyi the oxygen sensor costs about $80 plus labor to replace it.

Probably just means it is time to change the oil. Should be a section in the owner's manual that covers it.
