My radio stopped working and just says PHONE with the phone icon on Display. 2006 mountaineer.

  • Anonymous May 13, 2012

Hi, thanks for the help, but the radio being locked on for days has killed my battery and we had to jump start it and took out the spark plug to kill the radio. I do not have the capability to use a phone on the radio, but I do believe the mute must be stuck and the radio never turned off, even when the car was off. Thanks for you help, it looks like I need a new radio.

Try pressing the phone key on the display. It sounds like you have hit a mute setting for taking or making telephone calls. It is possible that the Sync system is waiting for you to enter a phone number and has killed the radio for the call.

You need to input the radio security code because the battery was disconnected. If you don't have it see the Ford dealer (about $100.00 charge) or go here www.radio-code.com

The radio is on phone mode and I can't get it to go back to cd/radio. The clock has stopped working as well.

I had the same problem. I disconnected the car battery and reconnected it. The clock and everything will have to be reset after doing this.

How do you turn the sound on if mute is on MMI sound system?

Depress the volume bottom or rotate the volume knob. When on a Bluetooth phone call, the speaker symbol will mute, but unmute when the call ends. Either rolling the right steering wheel scroll or the volume button on the shifter area will should unmute the radio volume.

Radio's display won't light up

The radios in the 2000 Mountaineer are notorious to short out. You simply have to get a new one. Believe me. I had the same problem.
