Metal clunking sound from rear suspension challenger r/t 2010

Replaced rear shocks and springs with bilstein srt kit. I loosened the rear suspension cradle to drop the springs out, I tightened the bolts to factory torque settings, however the car makes a metal on metal clunking sound going over small bumps. I've checked all of the bolts under that I loosened during the work I performed and they are tight.

Sorry dude, it is hard enough trying to keep up with all of the clunks and bumps and squeaks and rattles that occur on vehicles with factory suspension parts. When modifications are made...it is anybody's guess.

All I can tell you is to diagnose the problem the way any auto technician would diagnose any other suspension noise...get it on a lift and perform a thorough inspection and/or have someone bounce the car up and down while you stick your head under it and see if you can tell where the noise is coming from.

SOURCE: right front clunks when you go over a small bump

These models are notorious for sway/stabilizer bar link wear. The bushings where the sway bar is attached to the frame are also an issue.When replacing the links I strongly recommend you replace with Moog brand. They come with grease fittings and have a good warranty.
Of course there are other items that should be checked like ball joints, tie rod ends and strut mounts that could cause a noise too. But the links and bushings are the likely cause.

SOURCE: can i tighten the torque converter bolts on my 07,

There is a dust cover that comes off to allow access to these bolts, look in area between the engine and trans. for a cover about 1/4 the size of the bell housing.

check front engine mount located under radiator support, mine was cracked with the rubber bushing worn and pieces missing. ordered $90.00mount, hope it will take care of it

SOURCE: Front end clunking noise going over small bumps

It could be a couple of things.
Loose or worn out strut - (jack up car, remove tire and shake the strut really hard to see if it's loose. Check for signs of leaking or damage to strut)
Missing rubber isolator under front spring (visually inspect the suspension while tire is off).
Broken sway bar mount or missing rubber in the mount on the frame. (Lay under the front and look for where the sway bar mounts to the frame. Make sure everything is tight and the rubber is still in it.

Just checking, have you looked at the sway bar links. Its a common problem on these cars, has similar symptons, and is a cheap fix. $30 for parts for both sides and about 30 mins to replace.

2004 GMC Sierra 1500 pick-truck is making a clunking noise and he wants to remove it to look at it. How to test if the shock absorber is broken or needs replacing once he removes it from his vehicle?

The 'clunking' sound seems to suggest a broken spring instead of a broken shock absorber. It may be easier to test the shock absorber while it is still on the vehicle.
First have a close look at the shock absorber. Faulty ones usually leak and look oily and dirty.
Safely jack up the vehicle, place it on axle stands and remove the wheel. Check the spring and all the rubber bushes on all the suspension links. Any worn, perished or damaged bushes can cause 'clunking' noises. Repeat this for all four wheels.
To test the shock absorber try using the 'bounce' test. With the vehicle on the ground and the park brake on. Go to each corner in sequence. As a truck is larger than a car you may need a helper. Using your body weight, get the suspension moving up and down. It should be difficult to do and when you stop the suspension will settle quickly. (Up, Down, Settle). Try this on each corner. Soft or bouncy corners will suggest a worn shock absorber.

Rear shocks (van 150000 miles) originals still on Recently installed 2.2 Legacy Engine people sugges KYB gas shocks I have Biltiens *new) on front

Bilsteins are about the best shocks you can buy.

With those miles (150000) on the van I would have also replaced all 4 springs and all 4 shocks., It is stupid to put new shocks on the front and leave worn out shocks on the rear . - The rear shock absorbers should also be replaced with new items.
(Springs are inexpensive to replace so I am surprised you did not renew them because it should be done. The old ones will have sagged significantly by now.)

2008 elantra suspension clunks in the rear

depending on mileage and relationship you have with your dealer, the rear struts may still be under warranty. 24,000 miles if i remember right. those are your issues. replace the rear struts. cheers

It sounds like metal to metal rub while driving and turning also get this clunk sound as if the springs were interfering with something. any suggestions? Please help

check for worn brakes, if good, check the condition of the wheel bearings, as for the clunking noise check the condition of the suspension components like shocks, control arm bushing and ball joints

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Spring Rear
Removal
  1. Position a hoist under the rear axle housing, and raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 00-02 . Place jackstands under frame side rails.
  1. Remove rear stabilizer bar as outlined.
  1. Disconnect the lower studs of the two shock absorbers from the mounting brackets on the rear axle assembly .
  1. Unsnap the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit (2A635) from RH upper arm retainer before lowering the rear axle assembly .
  1. Lower the hoist and axle housing until the rear springs are released.
  1. Remove rear spring and rear spring center mounting insulators (5741) from vehicle.

Shock Absorber Removal
Raise the vehicle on a hoist. 1. To assist in removing the upper attachment on shock absorbers using a plastic dust tube, place an open end wrench on the hex stamped into the dust tube's metal cap. For shock absorbers with a steel dust tube, simply grasp the tube to prevent stud rotation when loosening the retaining nut.
  1. Remove the shock absorber retaining nut, washer, and insulator assembly from the stud on the upper side of the frame. Discard nut. Compress the shock absorber to clear the hole in the frame, and remove the inner insulator and washer from the upper retaining stud.
  2. Remove the self-locking retaining nut, and disconnect the shock absorber lower stud from the mounting bracket on the rear axle tube.
  3. Perform Shock Absorber Checks. Refer to Section 04-00 to determine shock absorbers performance.
Installation
  1. Properly prime the new shock absorber . Refer to Section 04-00 , Shock Absorber Checks.
  1. Place the inner washer and rear spring insulator (5536) on the upper retaining stud, and position the shock absorber so that the upper retaining stud enters the hole in the frame. While holding the shock absorber in this position, install a new rear spring insulator , washer and nut assembly on the upper side of the upper frame. Be sure to seat the rear spring insulator in the frame attaching hole. Tighten nut to 34-46 Nm (25-34 lb-ft).
  1. Extend the shock absorber , and place the lower stud in the mounting bracket hole on the rear axle assembly housing. Install a new self-locking retaining nut. Tighten nut to 76.5-103.5 Nm (56-76 lb-ft).
  1. Lower vehicle.

Refer to the illustration in Description and Operation. NOTE: To improve rear axle assembly noise and vibration concerns, the rear suspension should be fastened to the frame and rear axle assembly at the curb height position.
NOTE: If one rear suspension lower arm requires replacement, also replace the opposite rear suspension lower arm .

  1. Mark rear suspension shock absorber relative to protective sleeve with the vehicle in a static, level ground condition.
  1. Remove rear stabilizer bar as outlined.
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist, and place jackstands under the rear axle assembly . Refer to Section 00-02 .
  1. Lower the hoist until the shock absorbers are fully extended to relieve rear spring pressure.
  1. Support rear axle assembly under differential pinion nose as well as under rear axle assembly .
  1. Remove and discard the lower arm pivot bolt and nut from the axle bracket. Then, disengage the rear suspension lower arm from the bracket.
  1. Remove and discard the pivot bolt and nut from the frame bracket, and remove the rear suspension lower arm .

  1. Raise the vehicle, and support the frame side rails with jackstands. Refer to Section 00-02 .
  2. Support the rear axle assembly .
  3. Lower the rear axle assembly , and support the rear axle assembly under differential pinion nose as well as under rear axle assembly .
  4. Unsnap parking brake rear cable and conduit from upper arm retainer.
  5. Remove and discard the nut and bolt retaining the rear suspension arm and bushing to the rear axle assembly housing. Disconnect the rear suspension arm and bushing from the housing.
  6. Remove and discard the nut and bolt that secures the rear suspension arm and bushing to the frame bracket, and remove the rear suspension arm and bushing . If upper arm rear bushing is to be replaced, use Suspension Bushing Service Set T79P-5638-A and Rear Axle Control Arm Bushing Tools T86P-5638-AH and the following procedure:
  7. Place the upper arm rear bushing remover tool in position, and pull bushing out. Using Suspension Bushing Service Set T79P-5638-A install bushing assembly into bushing ear of rear axle assembly.

Rear air ride shock over inflate and will not deflate

I would recommend going to strutmasters.com and taking a look at the conversion kits. these convert you from the airbag to a powder coated American made steel coil spring that is guaranteed to last the life of the car. Airbags and compressors are constantly having to be replaced. Also something alot of people don't know is that theses air suspensions are not meant to be in temperatures above 90 Degrees or below 40 Degrees. That is most of the world. The temperature will cause you to replace alot of bags. and typically when your replacing a bag you are going to have to replace the compressor to because the bag had a hole or small crack in it causing the compressor to over work and it will die. HI, this noise can be caused by worn shocks,even if the bushings look good, you can remove one of them and check if is hard to constracts ,if not they must be replaced,

1995 Jag XJ6 Rear Issues...need to fix ASAP.

My 1994 Vanden Plas makes the same noise. I know I need rear shocks. You do also!! Have the rear shocks replaced. Bilstein part number B46 1858 or Koni part  number 30 1377. Actually the Bilstein is the better shock and less expensive.
