Re: what to do ?
You here the fuel pump running, but do you have 35 to 42 psi to the rail, if not, replace inline fuel filter and fuel pump and pump pickup filter. Most cars have to have a set fuel pressure to open the injectors before it will run.

Hello dfarr69, the fuel pump is located in the gas tank. To find out if it's working have someone turn the key to the on position, don't turn to start, just turn to on position. have someone who has very good hearing stand back by the gas tank, whichever side it's on, and listen very closely. Fuel pumps have a small motor and if you're listening for it you can usually hear the pump kick on.
The fuel filters are generally about midway between the front and rear tires, usually on the driver's side, and their shaped like a small beer can.
you can purchase what is called a noid light not to expensive they plug into the injectors conection the noise your hearing is called a two second run . if the light don't come on the ignition modual needs replaced that is mounted under the distributor cap .
you should be able to hear your fuel pump run like a zingggg or a errrrrrrrr noise get someone to cycle the key to the run then off position while you get close to the fuel tank if you hear either of those sounds the pump is running. if you wanted to go a step further i do believer there is a valve on the fuel rail that looks like a tire valve and if you can get a presure guage on it it should read 45 -50 psi i do believer but as long as you are getting some pressure your truck should idle. check the fuel filter too .
