Re: engine replacement. 2003 Hyundai Sonata v6
First things first, turbo charging a car that was not turbo'd from the factory is a bad idea unless your going to put in forged internals and fuel managment system and then tune it, turboing a NA motor will soon lead to distruction even if its brand new. if you want more info i can give you my number i build allwheel drive turbo eclipses and have alot of knowledge in that area. if your set on turboing your car dont put in another engine use that money to forge internal your bad engine, then buy a turbo kit because you have no clue the pains of building a junkyard turbo, you can get a pre programed ecu to swap that is mapped to that specific turbo and engine. just let me know if you want my email and i will help you in either path.

I am a mechanic ..most people ask questions about these foreign hyundai motors ..below is an example of engines that basically if you ask about a Hyundai Xg 350 ,xg300 ..well allow me to hammer 90% of your questions in case you want to grab another motor ..these motors listed will work on 90% of all hyundai products ...Look at the starter sizes ,,all the same for the selected models ..then look at the motor sizes ..This will help you in solving some problems most do not give the specific questioning 100% NEW REPLACEMENT STARTER FOR STARTER
if vehicle has less than 200,000 kms then i think cat is ok ,check the O2 sensors with a automotive meter rather than reading the obdii ,which i cannot do anyway in europe but at least you will know if they work or not their are two O2 sensors on each cat one before the and one after ,unless this is a high mileage vehicle i dont think the cats will be gone
I posted this solution for this same engine on the 2001 Kia Optima. It is Exactly the same 2.5 V6, and the instructions are exactly the same. I recommend replacing the plug wires. Please see 2001 kia Optima for the rest. Good luck, it's fairly easy.
It is either a 2.4L 4 cylinder, or a 2.5L V6. I double checked with Hyundai and this is all they show to offer for 1999. If you are still unsure, check how many spark wires you have, 4 or 6, and this will tell you how many cylinders you have. Hope this helps.
