You will save heaps of time just moving the engine forward enough to do the clutch job. Remove a battery cable before you start! Frankster016

Steps to Replacing a Clutch on mitsubishi express


for the full steps then get a workshop manual as there are some details that will be missed . Basically it is Remove the battery terminal. remove the rear drive shaft ( front also if 4wd). Remove the gear lever at the tower bolts on the gear box. Drain the gear box or be prepaired for the gear oil to run out the end of the transmission when you pull the box. . Place a bottle jack under the sump at the rear of the engine . Place a trolley jack under the gear box. undo the rear transmission mount cross member Undo all the bell housing bolts. lower the jack and the trolley jack and pull the gear box back. Undo the bolts holding the pressure plate on the flywheel a bit each at a time as you go around the plate . Remove the plate and the clutch plate ( be aware that the clutch plate will only go back in one way so watch the way the clutch hub was facing. Remove and replace the bearing in the back of the crank shaft. clean up the flywheel face ( good idea for a good non shudder job is to have the flywheel re-machined ) fit the clutch plate the right way and fit the pressure plate . Use a clutch aligner tool as it will be impossible to fit the gear box with out it. Replace the clutch throw out bearing. Now re install using the reverse processes As I said a manual shows it all

Replace clutch


this is easily done on this engine. just need a jack and some wheel ramps. take the battery off undo the starter motor, undo the box bolts to the engine and take the plate out. jack up remove the engine mount on gearbox side. ,then jack up after so engine is at an angle and pull off the gearbox and clutch housing oh forgot to say remove the gear link pin and clutch cable. now you can see the clutch and remove it. when putting the clutch back in locate the new clutch with a socket one of the long types think it was an 18mm just fits in right for the locator. then bolt down the new clutch take out the socket. and put back the engine in reverse. wiggle the gear box and casing to locate back onto the new clutch if dont fit in first time.

A long and difficult job best done on a hoist. The transmission and transfer case are quite heavy so a gear box jack is the order of the day. Remove drive shafts at the gear box and transfer case . Remove the gear lever and any wires/hoses to the box. Undo the bell housing bolts and take the weight on the transmission jack. Take care here as the gear box/ transfer case will tend to turn and fall off the jack. Finish removing the bolts and full the unit back out of the road. Un do the clutch pressure plate bolts evenly and remove the pressure plate and clutch plate . The clutch plate only goes in one way so remember which way it was facing when you take it out. Remove the spigot bearing/bush from the crank shaft and fit new one . Check that the fly wheel is smooth and any blue spots and burn marks will have to be machine out so it will have to be removed as well for the machining. When all is done replace the fly wheel /clutch assembly . Replace the throw out bearing and prepare to refit the transmission. Yes you can take short cuts but it will result in a jumpy/ shuddering clutch and you will have to do it all again.(extra dollars and time).replace the clutch and pressure plate as a unit and not one or the other. It will take about 6 hours of work but it should be a good job to last a long time.

95 f450 7.3diesel, manual trans, the clutch does not work. Many pieces of metal and springs started to eject while driving. How do I re move trans to replace clutch, any special tricks ?


nothing special just a lot of back breaking work. Use a transmission jack to lift and support the transmission as it will be very heavy. Use a clutch aligning tool to help with clutch plate alignment when re fitting the transmission. Keep the box bell housing face parallel to the rear of the engine at all times and do not allow the clutch to take the weight of the gear box. Replace crank spigot bearing /bush for the clutch shaft and use a new throw out bearing in the installation. Check fly wheel face and if it is badly scored or has many dark blue spots have it machined or you will suffer clutch shudder and will have to do the job again as that will destroy the u-joints and diff and be dam embarrassing after all the hard work. Plan for around 16 hours work for a good job

Int 806 will not move clutch is new


Fit 4th gear Release hand brakes on strait floor with open hood and push the car back and Forward to see if the engine engage your gear box if is not your clutch is back to front.if engage press the clutch pedal to make release of the gear,notes mechanical clutch cable or hydraulic system. check Release bearing arm position.

2Ways 1 take the Engine out and fit the new clutch if you have a block and tackel or crane to lift it.
2nd Jack up truck as high as possible and fit stands under,, Rmove gear levers/tail shafts/ transfer box and all other parts before removeing X member on box/ and put jack under engine/before removing all bell housing bolts and starter motor..remove box assy.. fit new clutch, refit box etc in reverse of removal.. But engine out is the BEST WAY

How do you change the clutch and pressure plate?


Easily. Remove the gear box, the roller bearing is fitted to the box, so yoou dont have to worry. The clutch and plate is fixed to the engine held in with hex nuts, you'll need allan keys to remove them, remove the bolts and the clutch and pressure plate will fall away. Take the new one from the box, being carefull not to contaminate with grease or oil that is on your hands, fit the pressure plate into the clutch assembly and line up to the engine and loosly tighten up so the pressure plate will move with a little resistance. This is where the fun starts. Get your socket set handle and push it through the housing into the engine. Centralise the pressure plate as accurately as you can. Offer the gearbox slowly to the clutch and try to push it home. The pressureplate should have enought movement in it to move slightly to allow the gear box to fit. Once fitted, slowly and levelly remove the box, then tighten all of the clutch housing into place. Refit the box, tighten and go for a cup of coffee to congratulate yourself! The only other adjustments you have to make are to the clutch cable. Loosen the lock nut, loosen the adjuster bolt, tighten the adjuster bolt until the cable becomes taught, depress the clutch and you should feel the clutch release. Tighten the locknot and that's it. your clutch is the problem,i would suspect master cyclinder??could have trapped air in the system needs air removed ie;bleeding;;;;;; {you did fit a new clutch when gear box was fitted}??? hope this helps.adrian

your three-four synchro or you need a new clutch, hope it's the clutch, the synchro will cost alot

Problems with gear box


Hi

If the clutch feels ok and isn't biting right at the bottom or right at the top then it sounds like its time for a recon or 2nd hand gearbox to be fitted.

I recently fitted a 2nd gearbox to a seat ibiza GTi which actually has the 2.0 Golf engine fitted to it and it wasn't too bad at all, but it is adviseable to fit a clutch kit whilst the box is off.
