Question about 2003 Nissan Sentra

My 2003 Nissan Sentra is getting terrible mileage

My Dad used to commute on a 2003 Nissan Sentra, and bought a new car last year. He gave the car to me last year and I moved to Montana to finish college. The car is only getting 200 miles a tank! My Dad used to get 370. That averages to under 20 MPG. Why am I getting such bad gas mileage? I have taken the car in numerous times and mechanics do not know what is wrong? What should I do? Thanks!

Actually I drive it exactly like my Dad. I am 25 years old, not an 18 year old driver that floors it. I used to live in Los Angeles with my parents, and in Palmdale the elevation was 2800. It's not much more in Missoula, MT. The elevation here is 3200 I believe. I am a very responsible driver and yes, I thought about the inflation and had that checked last week and that is not the issue. Any other ideas? I had a cam sensor replaced 6 months ago because the mechanic thought that was it, but was not the problem. So that was $120 of wasted money on a part I did not need to replace. What could it possiby be?? Thanks!

If you don't have a check engine light on and the car runs good the probable cause of the low mileage is your driving habits, chances are your Dad was a very conservative driver, you are young and I bet don't accelerate like an egg is under the gas pedal? Also what is the altitude difference, do you keep the tires properly inflated.

Two possible problems

1 - O2 Sensor

2 - Mass air flow sensor(Most common problem on Sentra's)

Spend a 100 buck and have a nissan dealer check it out for you as they would have the tools to check the sensors correctly

My car suddenly stalled 1 day and the engine wouldn\'t turn over. Brought it to my mechanic and had the Camshaft position sensor replaced by my mechanic. The car ran fine for about 2 weeks and then the light was back on with the initial symptoms.

Took the car into the dealership and they diagnosed it again as P0335. Said that the mechanic hadn\'t installed the sensor correctly. Charged me a bunch of money to replace the thing and not too long ago the check engine light is on. The Revs bounce around everywhere. Checked the code again and it\'s P0335 yet again! Am in talks with the dealership to get to the bottom of this...

There could be a hundred causes for a check engine light. First step is to hook up a computer scan tool and see what codes the computer has. The next step depends on the codes.

I have a 05 nissan sentra and it rides great, but the gas mileage is terrible only getting approximately 18-20 mpg. What may be the problem. I upgraded the gas octane.

you need to change the spark plugs and wires to properly burn the gas fully then you can just get agood oil change and you would get better gas mileage

I could not find anything about it in the manual, but it does seem like it's part of the sequence when resetting a maintenance required light comes on. I can't help but think your odometer is electronically resetting one of the trip meters.

1990 Nissan Sentra A/C not working

I would first determine whether the A/C system has the required amount of refrigerant in it. System wont turn on without that. If that be the case, how did it leak out ? Must be leak detected, repaired and recharged. Now there are numerous other reasons it won't blow cold, but you have to start with the source, being the freon.
