Strange headlamp problems on Saabs can often be attributed to a failing Headlamp relay. Here are a few common situations:
Issue1 - Headlamp switch will work backwards: Turn on the switch and theheadlights go off and turn off the switch and the headlights will goon.
Issue 2 - High beams will disappear. You will have nohighbeams. Be sure to check the headlight bulbs PRIOR to ordering therelay. Remember however that it is possible for both high beams burn out at the same time
Issue3 - High beams will not work only the low beams will.
Issue 4 - A single bulb setting (low or high) on either side will not work and bulb replacement will fix it.
You can sometimesfix these issues by removing the relay, taking off the cover andresoldering the connections on the relay bottom. To perform this repair, go to my illustrated tutorial at customsaab.com.
In some cases youwill have to replace the relay to effect a long term cure. The aftermarket replacement can be had at Eeuroparts.com for about $60.00:

I had a similar problem - no main beam on one side, no blue main beam light on the dash and one brake light failing intermittently. Spoke to the mechanic who puts my car through the mot and he checked the relay. There was a break which he re-soldered - job done - perfect!

try and open the big orange relay , that is marked "head light control"
carefully inspect the connection and most like you will notice that the solder is broken. re-solder and put it back together and you should be all set.-Rohan

The drivers side headlight on my 2002 Saab won't

This is probably a problem with the orange headlight relay under the hood in the relay black box. Take the relay out and clean contacts and put back in. If does not fix, try a new relay or swap with another 9-5 to troubleshoot.

Left side full beam not woring on SAAB 95 2000

Might as well check the orange headlight control unit first, as it is an extremely common issue, and will only take you 20 minutes. Here is a step by step tutorial with pictures to examine and repair it. The tutorial is from a 1995 900 but is fully applicable to your car.

Left dimmed beam failure

change the bulb... you can get access to it from the engine compartment.... if it is the side the battery is on you may have to remove it. the low and high beam of headlights is seperate... does the headlight work on hi-beam ?
