2) Remove the bolts that secure the thermostat housing to the water pump feed pipe.
3) Remove the feed pipe.
4) Remove the thermostat and retaining sleeve, noting the orientation for installation.
To Install:
1) Install the thermostat and retaining sleeve with the dimple placed into the housing slot.
2) Install the feed pipe that connects the thermostat housing to the water pump.
3) Install the bolt that secures the water pump feed pipe, and tighten the bolt to 18 inch lbs.(10 Nm).
1. Possible air lock in the cooling system, does the internal fan blow hot air? You can blead the system through small bleeding points on the water hoses.
2. Head gasket gone, do the water pipes to the rad expand under pressure?
3. Faulty thermostat. Thermostat controls the amount of water directed to the rad.
4. Not enough anti freeze.
5. Rad cooling fan not starting when supposed to causing overheating. Does the tempture gauge in the dash read normal. Let me know how it goes.
2. If the vehicle has an automate transaxle, remove the exhaust manifold before proceeding with the removal and installation of the thermostat.
3. Drain the cooling system.
4. Take out the bolts that hold the water pump feed pipe to the thermostat housing.
5. Lift out the thermostat-housing-to-water-pump feed pipe.
6. Pull out the thermostat.
7. Set the new thermostat in position.
8. Connect the thermostat housing-to-water-pump feed pipe.
9. Set the bolts in place that holds the thermostat-housing-to-water-pump feed pipe. Torque the bolts to 89 inch pounds.
10. Install the exhaust manifold.
11. Refill the cooling system to the proper level with a 50 / 50 mixture of distilled water / DEX Cool approved coolant.
12. Start the engine and check for leaks.
13. Make the necessary adjustments to coolant levels to assure optimum engine performance.
If equipped with an automatic transaxle, remove the exhaust manifold, as outlined in this section.
Drain the cooling system.
Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolts.
Remove the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe.

Remove the thermostat.
To install:
Install the thermostat.
Install the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe.
Install the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolt. Tighten the thermostat housing to water pump feed pipe bolt to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
If equipped with an automatic transaxle, install the exhaust manifold, as outlined in this section.
Fill the cooling system.
3.1L Engines
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Drain the cooling system to a level below the thermostat housing.
Remove the air cleaner assembly.
Disconnect the surge tank line from the thermostat housing.
Remove thermostat housing-to-intake manifold attaching bolt and nut, then remove the housing.
Remove the thermostat.
To install:
Clean all gasket surfaces completely.
Insert the thermostat in the intake manifold.
Attach the thermostat housing to the intake manifold.
Install the mounting bolt and nut. Tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
Install the air cleaner assembly.
Connect the surge tank line to thermostat housing.
Refill the cooling system.
Connect the negative battery cable, remove the radiator cap, then start the engine. Allow the engine to run with radiator cap removed, until the upper radiator hose becomes hot (thermostat open). With the engine idling, add coolant to the radiator until the level is up to the bottom of the filler neck.
Install the radiator cap, making sure the arrows line up with the overflow tube.

Installation Procedure
Install the thermostat and retaining sleeve with the dimple placed into the housing slotImportant: Lubricate the O-ring with soapy water or coolant before installing the O-ring in the water pump.
Install the feed pipe that connects the thermostat housing to the water pump.Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Install the bolt that secures the water pump feed pipe.
there are three hoses leading to the water pump. the biggest one oviously goes to the thermostat housing, but the other two are much smaller 1 inch hoses, one of wich goes on the water pump and the other on the thermostat housing. if you follow the hoses one will connect to the upper part of the overflow for the radiator after hitting a T in the lines, that hose connects to the thermostat housing, and the other goes to the water pump its self.
