False security alarms on a 2000 Honda Accord EX

When parked, no traffic nearby, the security alarm activates on our 2000 Honda Accord EX coupe. This happens intermittently and only when the vehicle is locked.

Is there a way to permanently disable the security alarm while retaining use of the horn?

My neighbors and I thank you for your efforts on our behalf.

My local Honda dealer tells me that there is no way to disable the security alarm without losing the power door locks, horn ,etc... there must be another way to disable it designed into the vehicle?

  • kmolek Nov 19, 2008

Sorry; it is the original factory installed alarm.

I'll let you know after I actually implement the suggested solution. Thanks

Hi,

A couple of ideas:

  • the primary concern is intermittent/false trigger of security alarm - check/clean/replace triggers mainly the door switches (faulty due to corrosion/rust, any constant rain lately? car wash?);
  • check key/remote for stuck buttons, damp/condensation underneath the rubber pads/keys;
  • disable original wire to the horn. Hardwire a new horn relay, new wire to the horn, new wire to the hurn button on steering. Even if alarm falsely triggers, horn would not sound off yet retaining use of the horn. Most competent auto electrican should be able to do this.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Hey try few tricks :-

1.Disconnect your battery. Reconnect it back. Close all the doors of your car. With the Key, Lock the door (either Driver or front passenger) and Unlock it/ Hold key for 5 seconds. That should shut off the alarm. I hope it helps..

2.all you have to do is pull the fuse on it,its that simple, and it will disable it,good luck with it.

This might happen due to some loose contact. Check the battery terminals for any loose or corroded junction.
If you want to disable, you need to know the circuit which depends upon the alarm design.
If you have a manual, it should be easy, else take it to an Auto Electrician (not dealer).

Hello kmolek,

Maybe you could ask him, instead of disabling the alarm, you could ask him to remove it.

Dear Sir/Madam,

According to the tech sheet if it is an EX and it is a factory installed alarm, unlocking the driver's door with the key should disarm it. If it is the LX it will only disarm with the factory transmitter.

If it is an after market alarm there will be some type of over ride switch that can be activated by turning the ignition key on and flipping it, but if it is honking the horn I would tend to think it is a factory system.

Also Look for a black box under the dash next to the steering column labeled (Honda Security System), if you don't see a switch, you can pull the conncetor that is plugged into it.

thanks
good luck

The alarm should be disabled at youyr car dealer or at an authorized mechanic. The operation is usually performed on spot.

To disable the alarm by yourself you need to do the same thing that thiefs do.

You remove the panel located under the steering column, then follow the wires back until you reach the fuse holders and remove the
fuses. This will disable permanently the alarm system.

A better solution is going to your car dealer, or to an authorized mechanic and having the system disabled for a small fee.

I disconnected the battery on my 2003 honda accord ex and after fixing the battery the alarm system doesn't work.

stock alarm or after market.?
check all fuses
if ok, read the operators guide on this .
or the FSM.
opr guide lost in glove box.?
http://justgivemethedamnmanual.com/honda/honda-accord-owners-manuals/

quotes:
The security system will not set if the hood, trunk, or any door is not
fully closed. If the system will not set, check the Door Monitor on the
instrument panel (see page 60), to see if the doors and trunk are fully
closed. Since it is not part of the monitor display, manually check the
hood.

we are not talking the immobilizer system option,.

odd, most really honda's, the horn sticks on. that year. 03
at battery swap or dead. and recharged.

there are 3 related systems.
IMMO (cant start engine) immoblizer
keyfob door mag locks.
and security (alarms)
the all work together,
do say what works and does not.?

2002 accord speacial edition alarm goes off randomly while parked

More than likely, the sonic sensor has too much sensitivity, and some low level vibrations, such as exhaust noise from nearby cars/ trucks, thunder OR animals going under the car, might set it off. If you have the PRESTIGE alarm, the alarm box on the left kicker panel, has an adjusting screw for the sensitivity. If other brand, it probably has a way to adjust it as well. If it was a problem with doors/ trunk sensor, it would set off as soon as the alarm is armed, so i dont think this is your case.

"Factory Alarm keeps going off" No matter how many

There is a good probability that you have the PRESTIGE alarm. There is a hidden microswitch somewhere around the left kicker panel. It is also called the "valet" switch. It will disarm the alarm, but still allow the remote to unlock the doors.
