When my son got an oil change the Tech showed him the oil filter and it did not have any oil in it. He was the one that suggested he get his car checked and more specifically check the oil pump. It also started ticking.

If the oil pump is bad, the engine would have destroyed itself internally by now. Here is what I'd like you to do first: Remove the valve cover, and report back to me exactly what you see. Is it clean, or is it clogged up with black grease? Please advise.

You do not pull or lift the engine. Question: Why are you changing the oil pump?

Hi, take the oil filler cap of and start the engine, you should see oil spraying out the filler port ,that indicates that the pump is working properly, good luck.....

I want to see how to fix my timing belt engine.....

A 2.2L engine? You only have the one timing belt, which drives the camshafts, oil pump and water pump. The other belt(s) are drive belts for A/C, power steering, alternator etc.
To see if it is broken, lift the distributor cap a little and see if its shaft turns when the engine is cranked. If it does, something else is the cause. See here p25

sounds like lifters, rods normally make a knocking sound try putting a couple of bottles of engine flush in and run the car around the block a couple of time then drain the oil and change the filter and replace the oil with a quality 15w 40 grade oil and see if the noise clears up. if it is still there you can try product called moreys oil addative this often helps quiet down liftes if still no good oyu may need to replace your lifters

it sounds like your oil pressure sending unit may be plugged by whatever took your pressure down to 5-8 psi the first time. this is extremely low pressure as i am sure you know but at 30 psi your light should go off i would replace the sending unit if your oil pressure is holding 30

Low oil pressure on 96 toyota 2200cc engine

The oil pump can be changed without pulling the engine.

The impressive looking thing is the balance shaft assembly. These counter-rotating shafts balance out the inherent vibration of the engine. You can remove it, as long as you do not disrupt the gear placements relationship to each other. The balance assembly is set to a specific point.
