Question about 1999 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

Rough idle I had my 98 stratus engine replaced a few months ago and this one has a rough idle my friend thought it was the fuel injectors I didn't think so but tried the seafoam anyway it didn't help. It only idles rough when I am stopped and there is no change in the idle if I am using my a/c, heater or anything else. Do you know what the problem could be?

Well the timing belt and water pump either work or they don't. So I doubt either part has actually failed.
I think I would want to figure out the running hot problem first since that could cause the other two if its a leaking head gasket.

The sulfuric odor may be too much fuel, a rich condition caused by too much fuel pressure, bad regulator or no vacuum to the regulator . Bad O2 sensor , linked return line , stuck open injector pintles etc. .

Rough idle while in park, cutting out on highway

It could be something as simple as a vacuum line, but sounds fuel related. Possible pump.get a fuel pressure reading done and if pressure doesn't hold.....suspect fuel pump

You have two coils on this engine. Test each wire for spark with the engine running. You'll find at least one wire not sparking. replace the coil that has the wire that's not sparking.

clogged injectors I bet with the dirty fuel you claimed you had in the tank. Cleaners will not remove all contaminates in injectors for they tend to get seized inside of them
