Revs seem higher than normal in my 2005 Suzuki Swift Sport (3.3rpm in 5th @ 100km/hr) - is this normal? I also have a really high fuel consumption rate

2 issues,
1: MPG, you failed to say MPG, 15mpg? or 39? is 39 low?
what MPG? you never said it?

2: rpm cruise. (what drive line, A/T M/T ?) what tranny?
first google hit , is this it? this yours?
engine: 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol, 75 kW/133 Nm
Transmissions: 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, FWD

3300 RPM in 5th and 100km
if you wish to now what is normal, find the final drive ratio, listed in the FSM. Id say this is normal. typical of tiny engines, with low torque.at lower RPMs.

if you have the A/T and IF the trannywere to slip, the TCM will infact throw DTC codes, telling you it did.
IS IT? (scan tools show you this fact as might that glowing CEL lamp on the dash, on driving.

RPM
my 1.6L spins 3000 RPM , at below tranny options valve counts.
54/59mph (104km/hr = 59) 5sp MT.
64.6 4sp A/T (goes fastest due to more aggressive OD + axle ratio is lower.)
56/.53 2sp A/T
see how drive line effects RPM? so will your cars options.

Poor gas mileage on my 1993 dodge caravan

If you want fuel economy then dump this beast and buy a nice peugeot or citreon picasso diesel manual then you will get around 30 mpg around town and anything up to 70 mpg on a run ,try paying our fuel prices and this nice typical american petrol gas burner would be delegated to the classic car sunday drive out like my jag with its 4lt engine i can only afford to take it out once a month or so on a jaguar club run around ,other than that its my ford diesel manual escort with its 0 to 60 in 15 minutes but it only uses one tank of fuel a month.

Hi, Ford Escort stalling

The behaviour you describe is called "hunting"; it's typical of an engine with an over-lean fuel:air mixture.

Check the inlet manifolds as there is an air leak somewhere; typically it's a loose joint, faulty gasket, or a cracked or corroded manifold, do not expect to be able to see any cracks with the naked eye as they are usually barely perceptible hairline fractures.

The brakes are servo assisted and use the lower pressure air in the inlet manifold of the engine when running, so when you use the brakes it puts an additional load on the inlet manifold and forces any intake leaks to allow even more air into the system. This will cause the fuel:air mixture to become far too weak to sustain combustion and the engine will stall.

You'll save yourself a lot of time and headaches if you get the car to a garage which will be able to quickly and accurately diagnose the fault for you. Then you can choose whether to have them make repairs or to do so yourself; if you choose the DIY option then the garage will reasonably expect a payment for the work done to diagnose the fault.

I have vacuum leaks .I have problems connecting the vacuum lines

you need to find your decal on the underside of hood or on the shield above the radiator cooling fan.

1997 PCED OBDII-A SECTION 1A: Description and Operation
Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal Each vehicle has a decal (Figures 1 and 2) containing emission control information that applies specifically to the vehicle and engine. The specifications on the decal are critical to servicing emissions systems.

Figure 2: Typical Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal for California Vehicles

Figure 3: Typical Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal for Canadian Vehicles. In addition to the tune-up specifications and procedures, the emission decal shows a color-coded (shown in black and white) schematic of the engine vacuum system. The color coding on the schematic represents the actual color coding on the vacuum hoses. However, there will be instances when a hose color does not match the color on the decal.
Decal Location Typical location of the decal will be on the underside of the hood or the radiator support sight shield.
