Question about 2000 Lincoln LS

2000 lincoln ls i got a trouble code p1633 (KAM)voltage to low

Does anybody know what this code means and a possible fix the check engine light is on and is has a rough idle and misses between 40 and 50 mph otherwise runs fine. from everything i read it sounds like a bad coil but this was the code i got when i scaned it. thanks

    rough idle car cuts off feels like when you have bad gas. Check engine code comes up for ignition coil short. I thought it could possibly by a sensor that monitors TPS or tach

    My car seems to run just fine but the ck engine light keeps coming on and off randomly. Now it won't pass smog because of the light - not tail pipe emissions. My mechanic says it is likely a problem from the dual mass flywheel which has pick up points on it that the engine management computer uses. So if the flywheel is wacky, the computer gets a bad signal and sets off the light. Argh!

    well i took a little different approach and started to replace the coils and spark plugs.  

    After two coils ($50.00 a piece) and sparks plugs all 8.  it ran good for a few days and then the symtoms came back.  Sputtering and shaking and when at a traffic light the engine will not run over 3000 rpm's.  

    I am looking now for the speed sensor.  Next step is replacing the other coils.  Will try the battery things also now.  Hopefully it is a computer thing.

P1633 means KAM (Keep Alive Memory ) Voltage too low. the KAM is caused by low battery voltage and you replace the battery.When you replace the battery the KAM loses Memory and the problems resulting in what you are experiencing now.When replacing a new battery, reconnect the Positive cable first.And use a trickle battery charger set low to the cables before disconnectng the battery . this will keep the voltage to the ECM powered with enough voltage. All you can do now is make the computer relearn the way it should run. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, wait a while 20 seconds or so. then reconnect the cable. I do not know if this is a temporary fix or not but it should re-program the computer.

you probably have a vacuum leak. check all your hoses pcv hose for sure. it means the engine is seeing too much air with the fuel.

SOURCE: which ignition coil is bad?

I went thru this on my 2002 LS as well.
I replaced one ignition coil at the dealer - only to get the same misfire code on another cylinder. After a little research found out is actuall a gasket/o-ring problem design of the block. Spark plugs are deep in the block - under the oil - which is why they are supposed to last 100,000 miles. But the o-rings start to leak some where between 65k-85k miles. Coils go bad because of oil contamination. If you don't solve leaking oil problem will have to replace coils again - but sooner - because leaking oil will be progressively worse.
Cost - 8 ignition coils
set of spark plugs (who knew they were that expensive
and a ton of cash for the labor to tear down the top of the motor

Very common problem is about a dime size hole wearing in the rubber elbow on the PCV valve located on the driver side rear of the intake manifold.

This has to do with voltage falling too low for "Keep Alive Memory" (or KAM) to the PCM. First check the battery voltage, terminals etc. After that it could be anywhere in the wiring harness. See the link below for add'l help

The P0511 code is for the idle air control circuit and the P1633 is stating the the KAM voltage is too low. My guess is if you are having issues with the Idle air control circuit this could cause stalling, especially if the valve is not functioning properly and allowing too much air at idle, this causing the car to stall. I can't imagine that by pulling the connector on the A/C compressor you would get either of these codes. Have you checked for corrosion on the battery or proper battery voltage level? Here is a forum that may be of some help for trouble areas to look for (regarding P1633):
As far as P0511 goes if you notice any hooting type noise that is a sure indicator of a faulty IAC valve, if not then I would say first check that you do have proper output from your battery/alternator and then either take it to get properly diagnosed or try to check the circuit yourself.

2001 for tarous code p1633 what does that mean

P1633 means KAM (keep alive memory) power is low. The power that goes to the vehicles computer to hold its memory when the key is off has lost its power. I would start by checking fuses in the fuse panel in the engine compartment(near the radiator support). If the fuses are all good then I would test for power at the computer connector which is also in the engine compartment behind the engine. I don't have the pin number or wire color at the moment (I apologize) since the Ford website is down at the moment. I have repaired this problem in the past by installing another power wire to feed the circuit essentially bypassing the original circuit.

2000 S70 has engine light on. Codes 722, 1618, 1633 but no obvious problem with the vehicle. Ideas?

2000 Ford Windstar failed inspection for emission. DMV readout says code P1633. What is it, and how do I fix it? This code is not in Chilton repair manual.

The code is "Keep Alive Power Voltage Too Low" perhaps you can find something in chilton's regarding this error. Appears to be a communication error

check the alternator you should be getting more volts than that..
