2003 Pontiac Grand Am - reading lights won't turn OFF

I have a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am. The "reading lights", on the rearviewmirror, have turned on and won't turn back off again. I push the buttonon the bottom of the mirror, which is supposed to turn them on and off,and they just stay on (won't turn off). I've been looking online foranswers, but in all the problems I've seen, people have trouble withtheir lights NOT coming on. I have a problem turning them off. I'mafraid that they will drain the car battery, but I can't figure out howto turn them off. The manual only includes a short 2 line blurb aboutthe reading lights, and just says to push the button on the bottom ofthe mirror to turn them on and off, but doesn't say what to try if thatdoesn't work.

Any ideas?

Ok, thanks a lot for your help! I guess I will have to take the car in and get someone to look at the switch and wiring. Thanks!

The switch that turns them off has stuck in the on position you will have to take it off and fix it or buy another one but after you take the plug off they should turn off and if not i would say pull the bulb

Pontiac grand am se 2002 won't turn over and

my pontiac did the same thing and all i had to do was replace the 40amp fuse. you can have someone turning the key while you hit the starter from underneath, if it starts then you need a new starter, if it dont then no, its something else. mine did the exact same thing and it was the 40amp fuse under the hod.

2003 Pontiac Grand AM suddenly won't start and security light is flashing on the dash board. All systems are OK such as Battery new, fuel ok and ignition starting system ok. Looks like some anti-theft...

Check to see if you have a computer chip on your key. Chances are that the computer chip or the reader in the ignition keyhole is not reading it properly. If you leave the key on, engine off, for 15-20min. that security will reset and the light will go off. Turn key off and now try to start engine.
