Question about 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager

Transmission Control Module

I have a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyage SE.
If I get a transmission control module from a scrap yard, will it work even though the VIN number doesn't match the one on my vehicle?
ALSO does anyone know where to FIND the module itself in the car? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

The modules are universal, they are not car specific, and yes it is located in your main fuse box under the hood, it is rectangular and says fuses on it..... the inside of the lid should tell you what is for what.

the check engine light should be on with a code P0700 present. This means that the transmission control module has codes in it. You will need a high end scan tool (not an OBDII code reader) to get those codes. Once you know what those codes are post them here and I'll be happy to assist you further.

Error codes 738

All I have for code 738 is "trans control module speed output circuit low" which means the data going to the trans control module needs to be checked.
You would probably need a scanner to watch the data flow from the transmission to find the problem

Where is the tcm located on a 98 plymouth grand voyager

The TCM transmission control module is on top of the front right wheel well, right in front of the powersteering reservour. You did not state what your problem was. There has been a some problems with wires and terminals opening up and losing contact. Take an ohm meter and check your connections before blaming the TCM. I have a problems with an open wire on my 98 grand voyager. I found the wire that is the problem but now can;t find a terminal so I can splice in a wire and put a terminal on it. I'm hitting the salvage yards tomorrow to try and get part or a whole harness to fix it.

What is a powertrain contol module do

the pcm (powertrain control module) monitors and controls all engine sensors. it also controls many other things including fuel pump, evap system, and tire monitors. its pretty much the heart of the whole car. all other modules like the TCM (transmission control module) and bcm(body control module) run through the pcm

Engine code? PO1698

No CCD messages from TCM or BCM(transmission control module or body control module). This most "likely" the TCM itself. Common Chrysler wiring and computer issues. What is the car doing? Or not doing?

Transmission Control Module (TCM) is located on the passenger side fender behind the headlight. You will see the wire harness going to the silver TCM.

1998 Plymouth Voyager does not shift to 3rd gear when driving,3.3

It's in limp home mode. You'll have to check wire connections and electronic controls. If it has a vacuum modulator you can remove it and look for trans fluid on the vacuum hose side (meaning ruptured diaphram). Double check the parts you replaced as well, especially if they were used parts. My dad went through three speed sensors in one year on his Caravan. You should drop the pan after checking other components. It could be a bad relay, shorted module or wire. The three speed transmissions are much more reliable than the four speed overdrive transmissions but with age and miles things can go wrong and parts will wear out.

Transmission Control Module

We are not a parts service, but try an internet search for used VW parts, there are many VW only wrecking yards, that is your best chance of finding it. Also call VW and see if they sell a rebuilt module.

I had this same problem and had the transmission control module (tcm) replaced. It worked fine after that.
