2004 Jeep Liberty shaking when breaking at high speed

I can not drive in a hurry because when I broke, my Jeep Liberty will shake the steering wheel. I cnaged 4 new tires, changed lower balljoints. I have to drive slowly like a lady. What is the cause for it to shake? I changed all brake pads and the problem is still there. Is there any places I missed? I will go under the car when the weather is warmup.

I jacked the right side up and tried to remove the tire, it's rock solid. I jacked the left side and tried to move the tire, it's rock solid. I will check the front rotors when the weather is warm. Since I bought it, I never change the rotors. I changed the brake pads all 4 but did not inspect the rotors. It has 117,000 miles.

Some things you can check. 1 jack up one side at a time. Grasp the tire on each side and try to move the tire, if you can move it you have a bad inner tie rod on that side. You can also grasp the tire at the top and bottom and try to move it that way as well, this will tell you if you have bad ball joints. I suspect a bad inner tie rod here as you have replaced everything else. If you check both front tires and nothing is loose your problem lies in your front brake rotors. Hope this gives you some help and thank you for using FixYa!

Sincerely,

JC

Yep. Time for some new rotors. Also when you replace your rotors, its always a good idea to replace your pads at the same time. Good luck to you and thanks for using fixya!

I have a bad vibration that appears to be coming from the rearend. Started out only at certain speeds now it's all the time. Stops when you let off the gas. Shakes the entire vehicle.

A couple of things to check. It may be a wheel bearing, shock, cv joint, or a very common cause is that one or both of your back tires are worn irregularly. This causes the car to shimmy and get progressively worse as you have explained. It usually happens on the front end of the car, but can occur in the back.

My steering wheel shakes for my 2004 manual transmission chevy cavalier

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Does it shake when you're going fast? If that's the case then have the wheel balanced. If the wheel is unbalanced it will shake during high speed driving. Try to check the underchassis bushings too. If you have worn out bushings issues like this can occur.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Steering wheel shaking at higher speeds and when braking

The shaking is probably caused by two seperate things. First shaking at high speeds is usually tire balance. Second the shaking when braking is usually the front pads are worn and the rotors need refinishing. If you have these two things checked and corrected your problem will go away.

It sounds like you need a tune change at least the wires and plugs it also could be a worn or broke motor or tranny mount.
