Question about 2003 Chevrolet Venture Passanger

Blows ice cold air out of deforst

After the engine has warmed up to half way point the ice cold air still comes out. When sitting at a light or parked and running still cold air blows until the engine goes almost into red over heating then warm air comes out only happens after going down the highway.

I think it may be the thermostat. Does this sound right or do we have a problem with the defrost?

Will not be the thermostat. Most likely you are low on antifreeze (coolant). This may be caused by a leak in the head gasket or manifold. If so major problem. Check your oil to see if there is water getting into the engine. It will appear as white milky substance. If so fix immediately or lose the engine.
The other problem may be the water pump has failed. If you look at the engine you may see a lot of water (coolant) on the left side of the engine which is where the water pump is located. ( left side if you are looking into the engine compartment) If it is the waterpump you are looking at app. $200-$250 parts and labour taxes in Canadian.
I had the same problem mine was the waterpump.

2003 mercury sable, AC will blow ice cold until I spend too long sitting in traffic then it starts to blow warm, if I shut AC off and start moving after about 5 minutes I can turn it back on and it gets...
It's gathering frost inside. When you turn it off & drive around for a short while, it defrosts & starts working again.

I'll bet when you park it, you find a pretty large pool of water under it half an hour later, don't you?

Sorry, that's the nature of the beast - it's worse in humid weather, not so bad in dry weather. Pretty nearly all cars (with AC) do that unless the AC is designed oversized.

Heater not blowing hot air
Hi Chris, sounds like your thermostat may be worn and not closing all the way which would cause your engine to run cool at times. If you have a temp gage it should tell you if the engine is actually warming up or not. If not I would replace the thermostat.

hi there it sounds like the matrix has gone it is at the back of the centre panel at the bottom when the engine is hot touch the matrix to see if its warm

My heater, when parked and idle, cools down. The heater will heat again once I begin driving, but this is freezing me as I sit and wait for my kids at school. It blows cool air while I am parked and will...
It could be the electric fan is going on too easily.
The radiator and hoses should be almost too hot to touch.
And when cold, the fan should not really do on at all.
But the thermostat could be opening too soon also.
There are two hoses to the radiator, and when you start a cold car, only one should slowly get hot.
The other should stay cold until the thermostat opens, after the engine is good and hot.
If both start slowly getting warm at the same time, then you need a new thermostat.
And also make sure you have enough coolant in the radiator.

My 2004 volkswagen temperature gauge on the inside of the car is a little passed the half mark and the air starts to blow warm, then I will stop the car and start it again the air is blowing cold again....
You may have a failing water pump,
remove the small return hose from the resevoir and hold it pointing into the resevoir, have a second person start the car and rev the RPM to 2000 if no coolant comes out or no solid stream replace the water pump
