Question about Chevrolet Suburban 1500

Check engine light stays on

I have used an obd reader on the vehicle and the only code that comes up is :1345- manufacturer control- ignition system or misfire. I have taken the vehicle to a mechanic to clear the code and have done the same myself with the obd reader.The check engine light always returns the next time I start the engine. This may be a problem related to work I did on the vehicle last winter.One of the lifters had to be replaced. After reassembling the engine I had the timing off slightly and it ''misfired'' or backfired. The vehicle has run great since that time and no other problems have occured,I even drove it from home(Englewood,Oh.)to Niagra Falls-Canada- and back this summer.What can I do?

It sounds like you have another lifter problem and losing compression in a cylinder. I hope that helps you out.

The check engine light is on my 1995 Saab 900s. I can not find a techician with the correct scanner.How can I turn off the light?


There are three ways to reset a check engine light.

1. Disconnect the battery, wait approximately 30 minutes, reconnect the battery. This resets the cars computer which also reset the check engine light. On newer OBD (on-board diagnostic) compliant vehicles this usually does not work. See step 2.

2. Reset using an OBD II reader. When you hook an OBD II code reader up to your vehicle, you can reset the computer using the code reader.

3. Fixing the problem. Generally the check engine light comes on for a reason. Usually it is emission related (sensors, gas cap) or electrical (faulty wiring). In this case the way to reset the check engine light is to fix the problem

My reverse light are staying on while im in Drive, and the traction control light come on & off when it wants to, now my check engine light just came on...is this a sensor needing replaced?


first things first go to an autozone. they read the codes for free and it will head you in the right direction. your shift linkage might even be out of range and this would cause the same symtoms, so lets get the codes and go from there.

First Character - System

The first character identifies identifies the system related to the trouble code.

  • P = Powertrain
  • B = Body
  • C = Chassis
  • U = Undefined
Second Digit - Code Type

The second digit identifies whether the code is a generic code (same on all OBD-II equpped vehicles), or a manufacturer specific code.

  • 0 = Generic (this is the digit zero -- not the letter "O")
  • 1 = Enhanced (manufacturer specific)
Third Digit - Sub-System

The third digit denotes the type of sub-system that pertains to the code

  • 1 = Emission Management (Fuel or Air)
  • 2 = Injector Circuit (Fuel or Air)
  • 3 = Ignition or Misfire
  • 4 = Emission Control
  • 5 = Vehicle Speed & Idle Control
  • 6 = Computer & Output Circuit
  • 7 = Transmission
  • 8 = Transmission
  • 9 = SAE Reserved
  • 0 = SAE Reserved

If you had the car scanned with a generic OBDII code reader (Which is what they use at all the parts stores) this is probably why it is not showing any codes. You have "Vehicle Specific" codes. This means that the problem with your Check Engine light is not a problem that will generate a "generic" OBD code. A generic OBD code reader will not read codes from your Antilock Brake System or your Traction Control System at all... You need to have it scanned professionally by someone who has the proper equipment and software to access the Controller Area Network (CAN) in your vehicle.

There are three ways to reset a check engine light.
