the adjustment is done by the idler pulley. loosen the nut that holds the pulley on. adjust on or off by the bolt immediately behind the idler pulley. most adjustments are right when the longest section of belt between 2 pulleys can be depressed about the thickness of the belt

Just put serpentine belt on 1999 ford explorer, now it wont turn


I know this is an obvious answer, but I would guess its not on correctly.
If you don't have a diagram on the hood or the radiator support, let me know. It can be easy to switch pulleys when you change the belt.

Trying to adjust the tensioner pulley to put the belt back on need tyo know where the adjustment is


Ther is no adjustment it is a spring loaded tensioner ,you have to pull back on the tensioner to install the belt then when you release it the tensioner keeps pressure on the belt

I have a squealing coming from under my hood when i press the gas pedal and gets louder when I turn. I checked the engine and I do have a loose belt but I don't know what it could or couldn't be.


The power steering belt tensioner may be out of adjustment and the belt slips more under the extra load when you turn. Apparently you don't have one of the serpentine belts with a spring tensioner; when these fail the belt usually comes off very quickly. Examine the belt carefully - if the sides of the belt are shiny-slick from all of the slipping, replace the belt.

It's also a good idea to check the power steering fluid. This isn't something to ignore; a sudden or erratic change in steering wheel force in an emergency situation could be catastrophic.

You don't adjust the tension. The tensioner on that serpentine belt is spring loaded and never needs adjustment.
On a 2001 with normal miles (~125k), you should be on your second tensioner pulley and your third serpentine belt by now.

I replaced both belts and set the number plug in the up position and adjusted cams and the car would not start. What's I'm doing wrong?


Don't know what size engine ,so assuming it's a six cylinder, 2 belts. There are two up positions on a cylinder. compression stroke and exhaust stroke. you could have the cam/s off 180 degrees.

Need a timing belt diagram


if the timing belt has no teeth on it your in alota trouble, its a cog belt should have alot deep teeth. the tesioner in underneth the plastic cover for the belt and its automatic, adjusts w a spring loaded arm and is dampened hydrauicly. if you need a diagram go to autozone or gates belts company for a diagram

Need to install the 2 belts on 2005 scion xb.any special tools needed?


Should be pretty straight forward. I replaced the trans fluid back in Dec. and all I needed was metric wrenches and a bucket. You may want to try sites like scionlife.com and clubxb.com for other issues.
Just remember how the belts wrap around. Ya don't want to reverse the pulley on the alternator, etc.

Yes I too am confused too ? the belts don´t just come off.!

Normally the either snap, or loose teeth, or the water pump bearings go.

Sounds like your timing belt tensioner pulley may be at fault, it is adjustable, and the locking bolts/nuts may have come loose.?
