When removing the heater blower assembly, there was a vacuum hose attached to it that was unconnected. What is it for, and where should I plug it into?

Is there any diagram or instructions to replace a heater core on a 2001 GMC Jimmy. If so where do I find it on the computer?

Removal:
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Drain the engine cooling system.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable, Heater hoses from the heater core.
  4. Remove the instrument panel as follows:
    1. Disable the air bag system.
    2. Set the parking brake and block the wheels.
    3. Disconnect the parking brake release cable from the parking brake lever.
    4. Unfasten the screws that retain the DLC instrument panel left side sound insulator. Feed the DLC through the hole in the sound insulator.
    5. Unfasten the right side sound insulator panel screws and remove the panel.
    6. Unfasten the screws that attach the instrument panel left side sound insulator to the knee bolster and cowl panel.
    7. Unfasten the nut that attaches the left side sound insulator to the accelerator pedal bracket.
    8. Unplug the remote control door lock receiver module electrical connector.
    9. Remove the door lock receiver module from the left side sound insulator. Remove the left side sound insulator.
    10. Unfasten the screws that attach the instrument panel center sound insulator to the knee bolster, instrument panel, heater assembly and floor duct.
    11. Remove the center sound insulator.
    12. Unfasten the screws that attach the courtesy lamp to the knee bolster.
    13. Unfasten the screws that attach the knee bolster to the instrument panel.
    14. Disconnect the lap cooler duct from the knee bolster.
    15. Unplug the lighter electrical connection and remove the knee bolster.
    16. Unfasten the steering column-to-instrument panel nuts and lower the column.
    17. Unfasten the screws that attach the instrument panel accessory trim plate to the instrument panel.
    18. Remove the trim plate and unplug all necessary electrical connection.
    19. Remove the heater and/or air conditioning control assembly.
    20. Remove the radio and the storage compartment assembly (if equipped).
    21. If necessary, remove the instrument cluster.
    22. Unfasten the left and right instrument panel pivot bolts and the panel lower support bolt.
    23. Unfasten the speaker grilles retaining screws and remove the speaker grilles.
    24. Remove the windshield defroster grille using a flat-bladed prytool. Start at one end of the grille and work your way down the grille.
    25. Unfasten the 4 instrument panel upper support screws.
    26. Tag and unplug all necessary electrical connections.
    27. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Air inlet assembly, if equipped, Vacuum hoses, Heater assembly studs, from inside the engine compartment, Blower motor resistor, Stud from inside the heater case assembly; the stud is located behind the blower motor resistor, Heater assembly-to-chassis screws, Heater assembly from the vehicle, Access cover screws and cover from the heater assembly, Heater core from the heater case assembly.

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    Heater core to the heater case assembly, Access cover to the heater assembly and the cover screws, Heater assembly to the vehicle, Heater assembly-to-chassis screws and torque them to 40 inch lbs. (4.5 Nm), Stud, working from inside the heater case assembly; the stud is located behind the blower motor resistor, Blower motor resistor, Heater assembly studs, working inside the engine compartment, torque them to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm), Vacuum hoses, Air inlet assembly, if equipped
  2. Install the instrument panel as follows:
    1. Rest the instrument panel on the lower pivot studs.
    2. Attach the electrical connections.
    3. Install but do not tighten the 4 upper instrument panel support screws.
    4. Install the left and right panel pivot bolts. Tighten the bolts to 102 inch lbs. (11.5 Nm).
    5. Install the panel lower support bolt. Tighten the bolt to 102 inch lbs. (11.5 Nm).
    6. Tighten the upper support screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    7. Install the windshield defroster grille and the speaker grilles.
    8. Install the radio and storage compartment assembly (if equipped).
    9. If removed, install the instrument cluster.
    10. Install the heater and/or air conditioning control assembly.
    11. Attach the electrical connections to the instrument panel accessory trim plate.
    12. Place the trim plate in position and install its retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    13. Place the steering column into position and install its retaining nuts. Tighten the nuts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
    14. Attach the lighter electrical connection and the lap cooler duct to the knee bolster.
    15. Place the knee bolster into position and install its retaining screws. Tighten the Torx® head screws to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm) and the hex head screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    16. Place the courtesy lamp in position and install its screws. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    17. Place the instrument panel center sound insulator in position. Install the screws that attach the center sound insulator to the knee bolster, instrument panel and the floor duct. Tighten the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    18. Install the screw that attaches the center sound insulator to the heater assembly. Tighten the screw to 13 inch lbs. (1.5 Nm).
    19. Install the remote control door lock receiver module to the instrument panel left side sound insulator.
    20. Attach the door lock receiver electrical connection.
    21. Install the nut that attaches the left side sound insulator to the accelerator pedal bracket. Tighten the nut to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
    22. Install the screw that attaches the left side sound insulator to cowl panel. Tighten the screw to 13 inch lbs. (1.5 Nm).
    23. Install the screws that attach the left side sound insulator to knee bolster. Tighten the screw to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm).
    24. Feed the DLC through the hole in the sound insulator, place the DLC in position and install its retaining screws. Tighten the screws to 21 inch lbs. (2.4 Nm).
    25. Install the right side sound insulator and tighten the screws
    26. Connect the parking brake release cable to the lever.
    27. Enable the air bag system.
  3. Install the heater hoses to the heater core.
  4. Refill the cooling system.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
  6. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.

How to change heater core


Check this procedure for models without A/C...

1984 AND LATER
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable, heater blower resistor wires and blower wires. Disconnect the heater core ground strap at the dash panel.
  2. Drain the cooling system and then disconnect both heater hoses at the heater.
  3. Remove the seven screws attaching the heater/blower case to the plenum and remove the heater/blower base.
  4. Remove the four screws from the heater core shroud, and then remove the shroud and core assembly.
  5. Separate the core from the shroud by removing the three screws and core mounting clamps and then separating the two.
To install:
  1. Using sealer as necessary to prevent leaks at all joints and flanges.
  2. Position the assembly onto the dash and tighten the retaining screws.
  3. Reconnect the heater hoses, electrical connectors and negative battery cable. Refill the engine with coolant, start the vehicle and check for coolant leaks.

And this procedure for all Buick models with A/C...
1977 AND LATER

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and drain the cooling system.
  2. Disconnect the heater hoses.
  3. Remove the retaining bracket and the ground strap. Disconnect the module rubber seal and module screen.
  4. Remove the right windshield wiper arm.
  5. Remove the diaphragm connections, the hi/blower relay, the thermal switch mounting screws, and all the electrical connections from the module top.
  6. Remove the module top cover and remove the core.
To install:
  1. Apply a strip of caulk-type sealer when installing the module top.
  2. Install the core and module top cover.
  3. Install the diaphragm connections, the hi/blower relay, the thermal switch mounting screws, and all the electrical connections to the module top.
  4. Install the right windshield wiper arm.
  5. Install the retaining bracket and the ground strap. Connect the module rubber seal and module screen.
  6. Connect the heater hoses.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable and refill the cooling system.
  8. Start the engine and check for coolant and vacuum leaks.

I need instructions on how to remove a heater core from my 1967 Cutlass Supreme with A/C. After looking under the dash, the heater and A/C control cables are attached to what must be the enclosure box....


Hello! Disconnect the negative battery terminal...Drain the radiator and disconnect the heater inlet and outlet hoses at the dash...Remove the blower inlet to firewall screws...Remove the blower inlet, motor and wheel as an assembly...Disconnect the control wires from the defroster door...
Disconnect the vacuum hose diverter door actuator diaphragm...Disconnect the control cable from the temperature door lever...Remove the four nuts securing the heater assembly to the dash...Remove the screw securing the defroster outlet tab to the heater assembly...Remove the heater from the car...

To install...Make sure the heater assembly seal is in good condition...Position the assembly onto the dash and tighten the retaining screws...Reconnect the heater hoses, electrical connectors and negative battery cable; Refill the engine with coolant, start the vehicle and check for leaks...

How to remove the blower motor from a 1978 ford bronco full size truck?


Deluxe Hi-Lo Heater
  1. Disconnect the battery cable, remove the carburetor air cleaner and partially drain the coolant system.
  2. Remove the heater hoses from the heater core.
  3. Remove the glove box liner and remove the register duct by pulling from the instrument panel register and releasing the clip at the plenum.
  4. Disconnect the right cowl outside air inlet vacuum hose from the outside/recirculating door vacuum motor.
  5. Remove the rear housing from under the instrument panel. Remove the outside air inlet duct from the rear housing (4 nuts and 1 bolt) and install one upper nut to retain heater housing-to-dash after rear housing is removed.
  6. Remove two screws retaining plenum-to-dash (above transmission tunnel) and two screws to heater housing and remove the plenum.
  7. Install a piece of protective tape on A-pillar inner cowl panel, at lower right corner of instrument panel.
  8. Remove the lower right instrument panel-to-A-pillar bolt to hold the panel in the rearward position.
  9. Remove the heater core (3 screws retaining 2 plates).
  10. Remove the temperature blend door (snaps off).
  11. Remove the temperature blend door arm support (2 screws) and pivot arm retainer (1 screw).
  12. Remove blower motor (2 screws) and remove blower wheel.

To install:
  1. Transfer blower to blower motor and panel assembly.
  2. Install door arm pivot retainer (1 screw) and door arm support (2 screws).
  3. Install the temperature blend door (snaps on).
  4. Install heater core.
  5. Install the plenum (4 screws).
  6. Connect blower wires.
  7. Remove heater housing upper retaining nut and install the heater outlet (4 nuts and 1 bolt). Position the air inlet duct.
  8. Connect the white vacuum hose to the outside/recirculating door vacuum motor.
  9. Reposition the instrument panel, install the retaining bolts and remove the protective tape at the A-pillar inner cowl panel, lower right corner of instrument panel.
  10. Install the right register duct assembly and install the glove box liner.
  11. Connect heater hoses to the heater core assembly.
  12. Fill cooling system, install the air cleaner and connect the battery cable to the battery.
  13. Check blower motor operation.

How to replace heater core in a 1988 jeep cherokee?


Jeep Cherokee XJ Heater Core

Work for '92 models, but can use it like a reference guide.

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
  2. Disconnect hoses from heater core.
  3. If equipped with A/C, remove evaporator/blower housing as follows:
    1. Discharge A/C system, then disconnect hoses from expansion valve.
    2. Disconnect electrical connector and vent tube from blower motor.
    3. Remove console, if equipped.
    4. Remove lower instrument panel attaching screws, then the lower panel.
    5. Disconnect electrical connections from A/C relay, blower motor resistors and A/C thermostat.
    6. Disconnect vacuum hose from vacuum motor.
    7. Cut evaporator/blower housing to heater core housing retaining strap, then disconnect heater control cable.
    8. Pry retaining clip from rear of blower housing flange, then remove the three retaining screws.
    9. Working from engine compartment, remove evaporator/blower housing attaching nuts, then the evaporator drain tube, Figure 1.
    10. Remove right kick panel, then the instrument panel support bolt.
    11. Pull right side of dash outward, then rotate housing downward and towards rear of vehicle until studs clear dash panel. Remove housing from vehicle.
  4. Remove heater core to housing retaining screws, then the heater core, Figure 2.
  5. Reverse procedure to install.

Personally, I'd pressure test the cooling system then look at the heater core to see if it leaks. It may just be a loose clamp or leaky hose.

Blown heater core in a 1977 ford f-150 pick-up


1976-79 Without Air Conditioning
  1. Disconnect the temperature and function control Bowden cables from the heater housing. This must be done to prevent damage to the cables.
  2. Disconnect the wires from the blower resistor.
  3. Remove five screws attaching the air inlet (vent) duct to the heater housing.
  4. Disconnect the blower wires.
  5. Drain the radiator and remove the heater hoses from the heater core.
  6. Remove three heater stud retaining nuts and remove heater.
  7. Remove gasket between the heater hose ends and the dash panel at core tubes.
  8. Remove heater core cover and gasket (four screws).
  9. Pull heater core and lower support from heater.

To install:
  1. Install foam gaskets on heater core and install in heater assembly.
  2. Install the core seal and cover plate.
  3. Position heater assembly in vehicle and install three stud retaining nuts.
  4. Connect heater hoses to heater core and fill radiator.
  5. Connect blower motor wires.
  6. Place defroster nozzle on heater so that the defroster and heater openings are in the up position, and there is no air leak around the seal.
  7. Install air inlet (vent) duct to heater. Push duct firmly against seal on side cowl and tighten five attaching screws.
  8. Connect wires to blower motor resistor.
  9. Connect temperature and function control cables to heater, and adjust the cables.
  10. Reinstall gasket between the heater hose ends and the dash panel at core ends.
  11. Fill Cooling System.

Pulled every thing apart to get the heater core out and I can't figure out how to get it out. What am I doing wrong??????

Changing a heater core


here is a step by step diagram to replace your heater core
Front
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the instrument panel glove compartment.
  4. Tag and unplug all electrical leads as necessary.
  5. Remove the center air distribution duct from the floor.
  6. If necessary, remove the ECM and mounting tray.
  7. Remove the hinge pillar trim panels.
  8. Remove the blower motor cover and then remove the motor.
  9. Remove the steering wheel and tilt back the instrument panel slightly.
  10. Remove the coolant overflow tank. Disengage the heater hoses at the core connections.
  11. Unfasten the attaching screws and nut and then remove the heater case.
  12. Remove the seven screws and lift off the heater case cover.
  13. Remove the fasteners and brackets that hold the heater core to the case and lift the core from the case.
To install:
  1. Install the heater core in the case.
  2. Install the heater case bottom plate. Make sure there is a good seal.
  3. Install the heater case into the truck. Tighten the 4 lower screws to 17 inch lbs. (2 Nm); the upper screw to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm); and the nuts to 25 inch lbs. (2.8 Nm).
  4. Connect the heater hoses at the core tubes.
  5. Install the coolant overflow tank.
  6. Install the instrument panel and the steering wheel.
  7. Install the blower motor and cover.
  8. Install the trim panels and if removed, the ECM. Install the air distribution duct and reconnect all electrical leads.
  9. Install the glove compartment. Fill the cooling system and connect the battery cable.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the engine cooling system into a clean container for reuse.
  3. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core.
  4. Remove the instrument panel storage compartment.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors, as necessary, that may be in the way.
  6. Remove the center floor air distribution duct.
  7. Remove the hinge pillar trim kick panels.
  8. Remove the blower motor cover screws and the cover.
  9. Remove the blower motor screws and the blower motor.
  10. Remove the steering wheel and the steering column (standard & tilt).
  11. Remove the instrument panel fasteners and pull the instrument panel back far enough to gain access to the heater assembly.
  12. While holding the heater assembly against the firewall, remove the screw located on the interior side near the evaporator pipe, if equipped.
  13. In the engine compartment, remove the 4 heater assembly-to-chassis screws and the 2 heater assembly-to-chassis nuts.

    NOTE Removal of the heater assembly may require the help of an assistant.
  14. Remove the 7 heater cover-to-heater assembly screws and the cover.
  15. Remove the heater core from the heater assembly.

To install:
  1. Install the heater core to the heater assembly.
  2. Install the heater cover and the 7 heater cover-to-heater assembly screws.

    NOTE Installation of the heater assembly may require the help of an assistant.
  3. In the engine compartment, install the 4 heater assembly-to-chassis screws and the 2 heater assembly-to-chassis nuts. Torque the screws to 17 inch lbs. (1.9 Nm) and the nuts to 25 inch lbs. (2.8 Nm).
  4. While holding the heater assembly against the firewall, install the screw located on the interior side near the evaporator pipe, if equipped. Torque the screw to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  5. Install the instrument panel and the instrument panel fasteners.
  6. Install the steering column (standard & tilt) and the steering wheel.
  7. Install the blower motor and the blower motor screws.
  8. Install the blower motor the cover and the cover screws.
  9. Install the hinge pillar trim kick panels.
  10. Install the center floor air distribution duct.
  11. Connect the electrical connectors that were disconnected.
  12. Install the instrument panel storage compartment.
  13. Disconnect the heater hoses to the heater core.
  14. Refill the engine cooling system.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Run the engine to normal operating temperatures; then, check the climate control operation and check for leaks.
