First, try smacking the hood at one of the front corners while someone else pulls the release handle. or even after you've pulled on it. if that works, once open, adjust and lubricate the hood latch assembly. if it still won't open, and it's the cable and not the latch you'll have to replace it anyway, so instead of removing the grill, cut the cable behind the pull lever under the dash where you can reach it. then skin the outer cable insulation away from the actual steel cable exposing an inch or two of it. then holding the insulation and plastic housing with pliers, grab the steel cable itself with pliers and pull it to open the hood. then replace the cable. the further you can reach up under the panel the better your chances of getting past the broken part of the cable and avoid removing the grill. you might also be able to gain access from up under the car if you're lucky.

If there is nothing left of the cable to pull with pliers, you can try to go up from the bottom of the bumper cover to reach the latch.
You may have to remove the bumper cover to get to it.

Engine hood will not open when hood latch is pulled and I''m going out of my head trying to figure it out. Please help me

If the cable isn't broken usually just pulling the handle and having someone give a quick hard bounce on the leading edge of the hood will get it to open.

MY INSIDE HOOD RELEASE HAS BROKEN. IS THERE ANY

depending on where the cable is broken your can still release and open the hood. if it is broken inside the van in the footwell is the easiest...locate the end of the cable and with a set of visegrips pull the cable to release the hood.

1999 Plymouth grand voyager engine hood will not open after operating the release lever inside car. Eventually it loosens and open days after operating the lever. Any thoughts on how to repair? Thanks Ed

I had this problem on mine i loosend up the cable end by the hood latch and checked to make sure nothing was bent, you can also buy a new cable for it as it may be broken somewhere in the way for around $25. but check the end at the hood latch usually gets gummed up with grease and dirt

The hood latch cable is broken or disconnected, how do I get the hood open to repair

if you can't pull cable under dash, need to access from under front of car. Try to pull cable or remove 2 screws holding latch on.
