The emergency brake light on my 1994 Toyota Camry was coming on occasionally when the brake was not engaged. Eventually the light began staying on. I tried replacing the emergency brake light switch that is located right under the e-brake handle but the light continues to stay on. Can anybody give any other reason this might happen?
If you disconnect the wire(s) coming from the switch, does the light say on? If so, there may be a short to ground fro the switch to the lamp. You would need to replace or have the wire replaced.

try to check the master cylinder in engine comp there should be a switch mounted on the bottom of the cylinder that often leaks and shorts wiring at connector

I would check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder, if the level is too low it will lower the float in the master cylinder and turn on the brake light on the dashboard, especially if it is an occassional occurance. Hope this helps

mcdevito75 here, After you installed new brake light swith did you adjust to make sure it"s contacting the brake mechanism, also check for power at the switches plug. Check also your brake light bulbs.

Emergency cable might be sticking and engaged a little to trigger the brake light.
