Sounds like the item got caught in the blend door between the heater coil and the condenser. Unless you can snake something down the defroster port to snag it, the only way to get this fixed is to remove the vent box from under the dash. In most vehicles this requires removal of the entire dashboard, draining of the cooling system and evacuation of the A/C system before the box can be removed and opened. Sorry for the bad news.
just because the check engine light is back on, it doesn't necessarily mean it is for the same problem. it could be, but would need to pull codes again to find out what its for. literally hundreds of different codes could turn on check engine light. also, was original code for "insufficient egr flow" or "excessive egr flow"? it makes a difference.
if you have the 3.3L or the 3.8L, it has a timing chain and not a belt. if you have the 3.0L belt replacement is every 60,000 miles.
If it ia belt you will only need to purchase the belt around 40 dollars
You should have a few special tools ready. Fender to Fender Engine support. Transmission Jack A Lift would be real nice Once the Trany is out it will be easy to remove the pump. It's putting the new one back in that can cause you some real headaches.
