Where is t the vss in a nissan altima 2006

The speed sensor is also known as a revolution sensor by nissan as it counts the number of revolutions in the transmission. Below is a brief desciption of its function as well as a picture of its location for you. If you are getting a trouble code of P0720 (which is common in Altimas) I have found through experience that it was just a loose connection or dirt in the plug. If you have any questions on testing procedures, feel free to email me at and I will be happy to do what I can.

Nissans call them revolution sensors. You didn't mention what year you had so I just got a picture from a 2003 (see below). I hope this helps and good luck.

My 1997 nissan pathfinder tachometer goes to max revolutions indications when I start the engine. However, the engine is running under normal revolutions. What may be the problem

It sounds like, assuming your tachometer runs off the alternator or coil, your tach is merely going on the fritz. However, if it goes through the computer, your computer may be acting a little screwy, and might warrant being OBD tested.

Code 1574 and 0720,in any time the car not change to 2nd,the problem is the revolution speed senso?j

Hi! i have a 2002 nissan altima(3.5 with automatic transmission). i just got the same codes today. i had 2 different nissan technicians check my car. and they told me it's the revolution speed sensor. After 30 min. of use my car revs high until 8,000 rpm and stays on the same gear for a full 5 seconds or more, then changes to the next gear harshly!! sometimes it just won't change gears and i have to stop in the middle of a highway or avenue. lol!!! when i brake to a complete stop, the transmission slips. does this happen to you? good luck, bro!

Speed sensor location on a Nissan Maxima 2000 gxe

There are two speed sensors one is called a revolution sensor that is located on the case of the transmission. You can take the driver side wheel off and see the sensor on the top of the case of the transmission. A 10mm bolt is holding it in. Easy fix

Rpm sensor location

MY MAXIMA 2000 AFTER 800000 MILES was stalling when sitting in traffic for a while especially when the temperature was very hot, i replaced the revolution sensor wich is located behind the the transmission on the drivers side just remove the tire and a small plasic cover and you'll be able to see it.I went to nissan and got the part for about 150 dollars and guess what saved me about 1500 the cost of rebuilding the tranny.
