Question about 2003 Volkswagen Golf
Hi, I have a 2003 1.9tdi vw Touran. It had new tyres in the summer and since then traction control light and esp light keep coming on. I cannot turn them off. No particular times they just seem to come on randomly. Since then have had all tyres replaced and still no luck. Car has been in vw garage for service and apparantly diagnostics came back fine. They said that there was nothing wrong with car. The car did not used to do this. Have driving test next tuesday and need to sort before then. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Heather.

If the ESP light on the touran stayys on pernamently then it is extremely likely that the ABS control unit is faulty. Its a common problem with tourans, unfortunately the part alone is about £1000.

SOURCE: esp off does touran grip
Electronic Stability Control, works opposite to abs,in that,it stops the wheels from spinning on loose ground/snow by applying the brake to the wheel that is spinning.TURN IT OFF.you WANT the wheel to grip not brake.and as far as being poor on hills, the toureg (amongst loads of other makes of 4x4s),is NOT designed for snow/off road, the four wheel drive just ENHANCES grip/handling on tarmac.(try a Subaru on a track/off road rally).
