1. Remove battery terminals and secure them away from the battery posts using nylon wire ties.

1a. Fine some comfortable eye glasses (clear or yellow) and keep them on. There are plenty of opportunities to get debris in your eyes during this procedure.

2. Spray "PB Blaster" (loosens bolts) on two bolts that secures alternator.

3. Jack-up vehicle on side to access alternator. Use a jackstand to support.

4. Using a 10mm open-ended wrench, loosen the bolt that swings the alternator. Screwing the bolt "in" or toward the engine will allow play to increase in the alternator belt. Loosen the 12mm bolt slightly next to the 10mm bolt (approximately 1.5" toward engine).

5. Continue to loosen 10mm bolt until there is enough slack in the belt to remove the belt from the alternator pulley.

6. Remove belt. It may be possible to remove belt without removing fan faring. Maybe not. If not, you will need to remove plastic fairing. If you must remove fair, go below fan fairing and disassemble connectors that hold together pieces of fan fairing. Carefully remove.

7. Install alternator fan from above.

8. Check that alternator belt is on all tracks (from below with a flashlight), and slowly tighten.

9. Secure 10mm and 12mm bolts. Recheck tightness.

10. Reassemble battery connection and run vehicle at idle for about 5 minutes. Check belt for proper tension.

11. CAREFULLY check tension of belt. Or disassemble battery connections and re-check belt tension.

12. Reassemble fan fairing (if not already assembled), re-connect battery terminals, and have a nice day. :-)

Buy a Haynes auto repair manual. They are available at most parts stores. Not only will it tell you how to replace the alternator belt. but will come in handy when other problems pop up.

How to replace a 1995 2.4 v6 isuzu rodeo alternator belt?

Just do a search on google. (1995 2.4 v-6 Isuzu alternator belt diagram) There are plenty of diagrams showing the belt routing. Put the belt on all the pulleys you can. Take a wrench and pull back the tensioner, slip the last part of the belt over the last pulley. Then, release the tensioner arm and it will tighten up the belt. Turn it over and check it again to be sure it is on straight.

Im trying to change the altinator in my 2003 silverado v-6. i took the two bolts out the electric componets and still cant get it loose.

Hi: !st Thing you need to do is disconnect your negative battery cable to prevent more damage. If i'm understanding you Right you Took the Wiring off the Alternator.Or did you Remove the Mounting Bolts? Here Goes Disconnect Battery, Loosen the Bolt on the Alternator Adjuster Bracket, This will give you Some Slack in the Belt ,BUT Locate the Belt Tensioner take a Breaker Bar or The Correct Size Boxed in Wrench or use a Ratchet and Socket. The Tension Is Spring Loaded to Keep Your Belt From Coming OFF. Your Belt Runs Probally Everything like your Alternator ,Water Pump,A/C Compressor,Power Steering So On. So Until you Take the Belt Either OFF or Just Release the Tension on the Belt,I'm Sure if you Have Removed All mounting Bolts and Your Wires to The Alternator, Your Alternator Will Come on Out with a Little Light Effert. Be Sure You Watch How Eveything Comes Off Cause You'll Have To Reverse the Way you Took It Off To Put it Back Together. Be Sure You Look At the Belt Routing Diagram Which is on either your Cross bar By The Radiator. Its Say Belt Routing Diagram. Hope This Gets you Going It Should. If You Follow These Instructions. I have a 91 pontiac 6000, I replaced the alternator and now I cant put the belt back on, I need a diagram of it

Hi,

you need a Belt Tensioner Serpentine Tool, to lift the Arm and replace the Belt,
disconnect negative Battery Cable, first!

connect Serpentine Belt, starting at bottom crankshaft, work belt, up the belt rotates toward, Radiator , so the Belt, goes under the Water Pump, and under the Belt Tensioner.

I changed the altenator, but cant get the belt to go back on right. I tried putting it on the back half of the double pulley, but the car sqealed and didnt run right, but when the belt is angled funny...

If the belt is angled funny, you do not have it routed correctly.
There should be a belt routing diagram under the hood somewhere. Check that the pulley position of the new alternator is the same as the old alternator.

Why not identify your vehicle; Which model? What year? Which engine? Does it have A/C? Answering these questions will allow myself and others to give you a much better answer.
