Question about 1997 Honda Accord

ABS Light is still on, even after I replaced the sensor

The ABS light came on so I took it to the Honda dealer, they plugged it into their magical super-computer to tell me the left-rear sensor had gone. I bought a sensor from Honda and replaced it... the light still comes on.

Is there some procedure I need go through to reset the fault? Do I need to take it back to the dealer to reset the fault? Or do I have another fault on top of the sensor that they didn't diagnose? Is it possible that the ECU can only store 1 fault code so they could only diagnose 1 at a time?

It can store one code or all codes at a time.disconnect the battery for 5 min.this will clear the memory.after reconnecting the battery if the abs light comes back on when driving then there is another problem.most times it is either the sensor or the wiring.

Replaced the disc, pads and wheel bearings on the front. Now ABS and handbrake lights are on as well as when I drive the D light flickers

Check the speed sensors on the bearing hubs you replaced. Did you damage the wire harness when you changed out the hubs. Did you reset the abs system. You got some work to do & if you don't have the equipment to do it, bring it to a mechanic who does. This may lead you back to the dealer, sorry. Several abs systems are specific to a dealer.

Remove the front wheels and inspect the ABS connector wires that run above the control arm. Chances are you will find that these wires are damaged. The ABS is in or around the wheel bearing and there is a clip that can be gently pried back to remove the ABS plug from the Wheel bearing sensor or the external sensor in that area.
Sometimes a faulty alternator will light up the ABS sensor light. Check to see if the vehicle is charging when this light is on., typical voltages while the car is on should be around 12.5 to 14 volts. You can test it right at the battery while the car is running.
Sometimes an alternator will only go faulty once the component inside get hot.
Typically the wires to the Wheel Hub sensor goes bad from exposure to the elements, especially snow and ice climates or rocks and dirt-roads a lot or if you go through bushes a lot.

what year , what car, what country, wow@!
its magic, even the dealer can fix magic. see?
find a local ASE certified mechanic.
some will even drive the car 1 day, to see what it is doing.
you can not fix this , just as 1 shot deal.
its a moving problem.
keep in mind , ABS issues can make traction controls fail.

if DIY?
go to alldata.com and read it.
its all there. and what to do, what to test.
etc.
this is also in the FSM, buy one. (factory service manual)
with out this , its all just guessing the magic.
also (all calls step 1)
read the TSB ,first. see abs or traction or awd, or related TSB.
read that firsts.
this is the first step taught in all ASE schools.
may be the car needs a flash upgrade.? who, know? no year stated.

well first of all, the mechanic you took it to was not a good one because he did unnecessary work to your car by changing the master cylinder, second, a good mechanic will know how to fix your abs, by replacing damaged speed sensors or abs computer. but my recommendation is that unless you have a lot of money or brake very hard frequently, that it is not a big deal because abs only comes in when you have to brake hard, and even without abs, your regular brakes work fine. abs does not come standard on all cars, including some new basic cars don't have abs. if you do take it to a shop, it should cost no more than 300 dollars to fix it, considering you have a trustworthy mechanic, if you like to get dirty and do it your self, you can google "92 accord abs computer", and a couple of forums come up on how to diagnose and correct the problem. so if money is tight, you can ignore this problem as it is a "luxury" feature any ways. my car has the same problem and ive had my car for 3 years with no brake problems at all. and if it makes you feel more comfortable, my friend has a 92 accord and his has no abs even from factory so like i said, it is just a "luxury" feature, and you should have no braking problems at all. just be safe when you drive, and you should be fine. hope this helps, good luck

Thats why you dont take your vehicle to some kid at the stereo shop without a wirnig diagram to poke around and screw up your car. You should have OK'd the Honda dealer to fix it, and have the manager from the steroe shop pay for any repairs. Sounds like a bunch of parts changers are just replacing parts without testing. Once you buy parts like that, there's no refunds.

Abs light comes on after driving about 1 mile

You need to check the sections on the abs ring for damage and rust contamination. Thoroughly clean the ring and gaps to make sure tha sensor is getting the correct count per revolution. Also check for play in the bearing which can cause a fluctuation in readings, especialyy if really loose.
