Question about 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
You have to pull apart your remote in a way that you need to hold it lenghtwise with your hands on each side and you make a good effort to separate the remote in two parts and then you have access to the battery.Good luck.

The black part of the key (with the buttons on it) will separate into two parts. When separated, one half will have the metal key attached to it and the other half will have the metal loop attached to it. If necessary, carefully use a small screwdriver to wedge apart the gap to the right of the red PANIC button. You can also wedge apart the crack on the opposite side of the key (push the button to flip out the "switchblade" part of the key first).
Once you have split the key into two parts, you will need to pry apart the half of the key that has the electronics it it in order to gain access to the battery. The easy way to do this is to fit the metal key into the slot where it normally rests when closed. You can then pry apart the half of the key that contains the electronics. At this point the battery will be accessible. Radio Shack or equivalent store will have the battery. It is a common battery. It costs $13 at the VW Dealer. Costs about $6 at Radio Shack. Costs about $2 online.
