Question about 1994 Acura Legend

Open Question

94 Legend Hiccup and burnt oil smell

I just bought this car and the woman said she had the radiator and head gasket replaced. The day after I bought it I noticed that when idling at a stop it hiccups, then I noticed once that a little bit of smoke came out of the hood near the drivers side and smelled like burnt oil. She just had the oil replaced too, and when I checked it it looked like it had a quart too much... Any ways, the hiccup and burnt smell are really the problem. Almost like a vaccum leak and then supposedly last night when someone else was driving it felt like it wasn't getting gas and then when the pedal was pushed again it accelerate fine.
thanks

Hi,
I would say don't replace anything until you have the "fault codes" read via the on-board diagnostic system.

Hope this helps. If this "fixes ya", I'd appreciate a rating for my reply, If not, please delay the rating and add a comment with any extra info you have and I will try to think of something else.

Cheers, D.

SOURCE: 94 Acura Legend temp gauge goes up while driving.

sound like u may have a blown headgasket or 2, have a cylinder leak down test performed , also have a block check performed... if u determine u have a blown head gasket or 2!!!, be sure to check the block for warpage and send the heads out to a machine shop to check for cracks and machined if still good.... may as well have them perform a valve job as well if u can afford it..

SOURCE: Hard kick into first gear , slight hiccups on highway

Hi ,
You need to check the transmission oil level as it is probably low and top it up as required there is a specific way of getting an accurate reading so read the manual first or get it checked by a mechanic .

SOURCE: my 91 acura integra is stalling after idling for

I had a problem on my 1991 Acura after starting a hot engine it would almost die after a normal start. I think I determined the problem was a leaky fuel injector or leaky fuel bypass valve. I fixed it by using Marvel Mystery Oil in my gasoline. Put in 2 ounces of Marvel for every 5 gals of gas every time you get gas. Marvel Mystery oil does two things for your system. It cleans your injectors, bypass valve and it lubricated the shafts that can stick. It sure made my Acura run better. My daughter has a 2008 Honda and the Marvel is helping her car idle better. You might give it a try, its not expensive and won't hurt anything. Only 2 ounces per every 5 gals of gas.

Sounds like the service department sent you out with a leaking gasket or two. The smoke is probably coming from oil that is leaking onto the exhaust pipe or exhaust manifold. You should not have to worry about it, other than having to smell the burning oil and put up with the smoke. Once the problem is fixed, it may take a few days for the oil to completely burn off the exhaust pipes before the smoke is eliminated..

check whether you do have a smell of fuel or burnt gasket in the radiator after remove the cap. If so then you have an overheated engine and blown gasket. Or check whether if you have either water in engine oil or vice versa. Having any of the two, surely you have to remove cylinder head for renewing cylinder head gasket etc.

Hoses hard top and bottom on grandam 04 with 3400.Over heats when driving.

The radiator cap maintains pressure water boil at 110F, now if you pressure boiling water you increase the boiling point for ever 1 LB you increase the boiling point 10F. So the vehicle optimum temperature is 210F. You have 2 possible head gasket scenerio. 1 when overheats and has a head gasket you get water and oil mixed. the second is what you have combustion in the cooling system. When the vehicle is cold or cool open the radiator cap smell in the radiator if it smell like fuel or a\burnt rubber you will need a head gasket and to find the reason it overhead to begin with

Your water pump is leaking, have it repaired immediately or it will seize up, snap your timing belt, and ruin the engine.

Some kind of oil in coolant

Start by flushing the radiator first. Also if the oil is darkish in color it's a big possibilty it is tranny oil. If the car was worked on because of blown gasket then oil residue is also a probability.
