Question about Volkswagen New Gti

1 Answer

Hi, i own a 2007 VW GTI Edition30 and recently i have experienced a strange reduction in the car's performance. If i accelerate hard in 4th or (especially) 5th gears the revs will climb to about 4500rpm and then drop off. Also, when in 6th gear the revs will simply not increase past about 4700rpm and the car stops accelerating at around 130mph. I have had the technicians at VW carry out a full diagnostic check on the car's systems but they could find "nothing" wrong. Do you have any suggestions? Many thanks for any help or advice you may have, Kind regards Steve N.I

Wow! Driving 130 on the track I hope. All European engines are governed to not exceed 130mph at the factory. Sounds like yours is set correctly.

I just did an oil change on my 2007 vw gti and the service now light is still on. I am wondering how to reset it.

It is not possible to have that reset or turned off "Service Due!" without using a diagnostic scantool connected to the data link connector of the car. This is the only one way to reset service due light on 2007 VW Golf GTI.

VW Golf engine rattle

You are experiencing detonation. Main causes are:

  • Low octane fuel - Use higher octane rating fuel.
  • Incorrect ignition timing - Readjust timing
  • Too high compression ratio(due to engine mods such as skimmed head or high compression pistons) - replace modified parts
  • Air/fuel mix too lean - Replace fuel filter and readjust.

2001 gti- where is the fuel filter and how hard is it to change the fuel filter in this car? what is the cheapest way to improve performance ? such as chips, turbo chargers, ect. what the first thing one...

Try joining a VW club, they are the best source for learning how and what to do for performance issues.... Now to the other question...

The fuel filter is located right in front of the passenger side rear wheel..

Good Luck

Vw golf mark 2 1.8 gti 16v is hard to get in to 2nd and 4th

Sounds like you will need new shifter links, there are only available from a VW dealer and easy to install. There are two of them, they are usually white (when not covered in dirt) and plastic. They snap into place on to the metal rods for your sifter linkage (located on the back of the trany by the fire wall) when these get worn badly it makes it hard to shift into certain gears not all gears tho. A good indentation that these are worn out is a sloppy shifter. Also the linkage should be lubed up to make it easier to shift, if your shifter is not sloppy then try lubing up each link (think there is 6 pivot points) even the main slide link. Let me know if that helps.
