My 04 Fiesta seems to have a problem... sometimes it struggles in 3th gear ... almost like the revs are too low but changing down a gear doesn't help and its also been noticed when driving in town in 3rd, again changing down doesn't seem to help it.

ive seen transmissions cause this in high-end luxery cars... but that being said..
-sounds like your fuel filter is clogged. (i just shake mine out and run carb cleaner in it, which i do every 15,000 miles) -could also be fuel pump -loose battery terminal -bad alternator -clogged MAF sensor
Hi, I recommend you take the exhaust pipes loose from the exhaust manifolds to see if your exhaust is clogged. Start the truck--it will be loud. See if it will rev with the exhaust pipes loose. If yes, take the truck to a muffler shop to figure out if your converters or the muffler is clogged.
If it isn't a clogged exhaust, it may be that your timing belt/chain has jumped. We can check that next if the exhaust is open. It's a little harder to do, and your problem sounds more like a clog to me. I'll be here to answer your questions either way you decide to go.
Get the pump pressure checked in your transmission. It sounds to me like you have low trans pressure. It will act like a slipping clutch in a manual. Also check your trans filter. It will amaze you the difference it makes when you change a clogged filter. Good luck.
With all you've done so far I'd have to say that I'd be tempted to take it to a good tranny shop just for sake of a diagnosis, which the mechanic can probably do free of charge, and a little drive down the road. Almost sounds like it's trying to take off in second gear or something. Other than that, the only thing that comes to mind at all is possible plugged exhaust, like catalytic converter.
