Question about 1997 Ford Escort

Escort 1.6 ghia auto ( p reg )

When i start to drive my escort everything seems ok when i start to slow down there is an noise which sounds like something grinding , someone said it is the gearbox slowing the engine down because it is automatic it is similar to a bus/wagon which are automatic they have retarders fitted is this what could be making the noise ?? please help !!

No, what they are tlakign aobut is an exhaust brake, escorts do not have a such thing, if your hearing a grinding, it means you have a busted motor mount.

Micra K13 Loud Noise at Higher Speeds


I've just bought a K13 Nissan Micra and it doesn't sound quite right. The noise I hear also seems to be coming from the back but it sounds like when you chop down a gear in a manual going down a hill and the engine revvs, well this is the noise I get in the automatic speeding up and slowing down, even just cruising at a steady speed. Any ideas people? Apart from this noise I love this car.

sounds like a alternator fault if you can get it started take it to either a auto electrician to get it tested or your local motorists discount shop who should have a tester
