Power running board failure

Both power running boards on my 2006 Mercury Mountaineer  have now failed.  The driver side motor was replaced by the dealer at a cost of $500!!!  Is there a less costly alternative?  Is it difficult to remove the power boards and install more conventional running boards?

My 2006 mountaineer power running boards work sometimes. I can push one up and it returns down. Lately it just stays down. The other works most time but not always. Won't the dealers fix this under warranty?

My passenger side powered running board has failed twice now. IT starts off intermittent, then stops working altogether. The first time it was under warranty and they replaced the joints. According to the dealer, the salt eroded the Aluminum causing friction and failure. HE claimed he replaced them with steel versions which this won't happen again... I see no he was wrong.

This is not really solving the problem, but my dealer told me that they could unplug the harness to keep the running boards in the down postion. The running boards have to be in the down position to make this happen.

Install the non-electric conventional running boards for $200. Anyone that isn't a total ****(ie erudite city slick ****) could install them with a socket wrench. Text me @

You will need Metric Hex Drivers to get Calipers off

Front & back are different size

Do you have any brake service experience or vehicle
experience,if you have to ask,may not be up to knowing
what needs to be done

You don't just hang pads, there is a lot of work there, removing
rust & having the rotors machined & special lube in various

Have to bleed the system every 2 years or your in for big problems

Have to replace trans & power steering fluids every 3 years or
those systems fail

2007 mercury mountaineer running boards. Driver side quit working. Paid dealership $340.00 to repair. Now sounds like my power lawn mower. Any relief from Ford Motor CO.

This is a social web site,we have nothing to do with
dealers, selling or repairing any product, were at home
like you

I have to ask, your vehicle is out of warrantee, why would you
be at a dealer with an 8 year old truck

You buy the parts there if necessary & install yourself
or have a handy family member do so

I have no idea why anyone & we get a few questions in
regard to dealers & mostly manufactures, would think
that any car maker would do anything for you,at all

No extended warrantee,no recalls ,nothing, unless the
govt steps in.

They are in business to lower the unemployment rate,
because of govt intervention & to make money, not
repair their products, at any level, never have been,&
I have seen this since 1964,some 47 years for me alone

2004 mercury mountaineer driver side heated seat not working but the light comes on

It is very common for seat heaters to fail. You can disconnect the heater from the wiring and place a voltmeter on the wiring. If you get a reading, then seat heater is bad.

Driver's seat stuck. Lumbard support works,

HI. There are only two causes for this particular issue. The most common will be a failed switch assembly. This should be located on the side of the drivers seat. This switch is responsible for transferring the movement commands to the actual motor/gear assembly, which is located on the rail structure under the seat in question. If your lumbar section is responding to commands, but the others fail, this will lead to a failed switch circuit. the entire switch board will need to be replaced, in this case.

Now, if you command the set to move forward, and all you hear is the motor running , but no movement, this will lead to a failed gear assembly. This will be the second cause of no forward/backwards movement. In this case, the entire motor/gear assembly will need to be replaced, due to the fact that the gears are not sold separately. The are shipped as a kit with the motor.

It is required that you order this type of replacement part directly from the dealership.

  • NOTE_ I have seen in most cases that the there was jam, due to pieces of the gear assembly breaking off, and jamming up the mechanism. in order to properly inspect for damage of this nature, it will be necessary to remove the seat.
