Question about 2007 BMW M Series

Open Question

Slow acceleration Just bought pre registered BMW 320i M Sport convertible over a month ago. First time I've noticed automatic sluggish especially trying to accelerate in high speed. The petrol gauge really goes to the minimum - trying to accelerate so much before the gear changes. Is this usual for an automatic ? Is there a way they could test it to reliably say that there's nothing wrong with it ? I thought I'll find out facts from you first before I take this problem to the dealer. Thank you so much. (Your selection of car year only ends up to 2007 but this car is 2008)

SOURCE: FUEL GAUGE AND LIGHT STAYS ON NEARLY EMPTY AFTER PUTTTING IN PETROL.WHATS THE MOST LIKLY FAULT. DODGY GAUGE OR FLOAT IN PETROL TANK.THANKS FLYNN.

Do you mean that the gauge registers as empty, even after the tank is filled? Probably the sending unit needs to be replaced (it's in the tank, likely partially attached to the fuel pump).

I don't think your trouble is on the ignition side of it but I am sure that you must have a look at the idle speed control(stepper motor).
If with temperatuer your "misfire"changes to better, it means that it's probably running too lean at cold, normally the stepper motor or ISC does this job.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers.

SOURCE: during slow, steady acceleration, car feels like it is hesitating

That was just a generic answer I do not know your particular car. Back in the day we put oil around the intake gaskets and if the engine  speed increased or steaded we knew that we had found it. I also could be other things.  Have you tried Carb/injector cleaner in with the gasoline? A vacuum leak could be too small to show on a vacuum gage but a person could look for or at least confirm a leak with the gage. Sorry I can not be of more help.

SOURCE: BMW E46 fault code P2799 - what does it mean

If is for a 3 series compact (318ti most common) then
P2799 is the intake air tem sensor 2
Which would explain the high idleing. Probably a sensor problem (bmw will charge) a competant mechanic should do it easily.

change the fuel you are using. try some fuel system cleaner. this is a petty issue, every vehicle develops issues over time.a bmw owner complains about hestitations, a bmw driver enjoys the ride. DEAL WITH IT!!!

Why would you expect any fluids to help ?

Have you changed the fuel & air filter, spark plugs,
cleaned the maf sensor, changed the two front O2
sensors & checked fuel pressure?

When that is done, check for codes, then vacuum
leaks

If it is over ten years old, the exhaust converter may
be blocked

Last check for cylinder misfires as those ignition
coils fail a lot & several at once

Don't over look the egr valve

If your battery is dead enough, even the dead battery indicator won't light. Take the battery to an autoparts store for a bench test/charge first before trying anything else.

dirty transmission fluid is common to cause a shutter like this. when was transmission fluid changed last! I would recommend doing this first. if the shutter still remains, you may have to flush it twice. if its a sputtering sound it could be plugs, wires, etc. good-day !

Have the exhaust system back pressure checked, you may have a catalytic converter that is coming apart, this would cause the rattle and a loss of power on acceleration.

Have your cam seals checked. Cam seals are a big problem on these cars and a major source of oil leaks. Another source is the oil cooler gasket but that doesn't appear to be the issue here as your leaks are well above the oil cooler. Good Luck.

Hello.

That doesn't sound right, I'd suggest getting the spoeedo checked. Even if you had the close ratio gear box which I think was fitted to the 4 cylinder engines, your speedo should be showing 160 km/h at 5000rpm in 5th.
