When facing the car the gear box is on the right hand side.
The plug is on the left side of the gear box, close to the fly wheel section, facing dead forward. BUT !!! it is extremely well hidden so you cannot see it from above.
I reached in between the radiator and engine with camera phone and took photos until i found it. Its a black plastic wing nut that you can easily undo by hand.
To undo it you will need to run your right arm down between battery and engine until you feel it. You can undo it this way also.
Run a funnel connected to about 2.5foot of hose small enough to push into the hole the plug came from.
Its easiest to feed it via going in front of the engine between the radiator route instead of coming in from above (how you undo the plug). Use your hand from the above section to feed it into the hole.
It'd probably be easier to take the plastic bottom guard off but I was not in a prime area and this wasn't an option for me.
I took out the battery but this was a waste of time.
If you plan on draining the oil go for a 10 minute drive first. Just make sure you can undo this fill plug BEFORE you drain anything.

Either the replacement sensor the windscreen technician should have fitted isnt connected properly to the glass or it has developed an intermittant fault - quite common with Renaults especially megane scenics and grand scenics....
SOURCE: 2004 Renault Trafic 1,9 dci gearbox problem. I
had exactly the same problem with mine, its in my mates garage as we speak. he had to take the engine out open the gear box and check the bearings. All the bearings were worn !!!! had to buy a wole bearing kit, £170 . plus labour, lot cheaper than getting it reconditioned by specialists!!! they wanted £1000 for doing exactly what my mate has done for me. Hope this helps you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
