if when you get to 30 miles per hour the rpms are excessively high then the 3rd gear on you're transmission is out. you can try changing the transmission filter and fluid but most likely will not help and you will have to replace the transmission or have it rebuilt anyways. Remove the fluid - get a good flash light - get a very long screw driver - put the screw driver into the drain hole and force the transmission out of gear. Then remove the Transmission and replace or repair. Cheaper to replace. You bent the forks on the shift mechanism.
A transmission service may solve this, check the trans fluid it should be ruby red and clear anything else and it needs to be changed along with the trans filter.
Chevy is known for using a cheap grade of wiring harnesses that corrode over time and short out. my 93 s10 blazer had a bad wire in the transmission harness resulting in only 2nd and 3rd gear and wouldnt shift by itself, i dont know if im right but something to check into.
