Question about 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara

2 Answers

Vehicle needs to be jumped to start,battery/alternator fine.

Put in brand new battery, alternator is fine (tested). 1999 suzuki grand vitara started fine for a while then wouldn't start made clicking sound like battery is dead. Left alone started the next day. It did that a few times (not everyday). It did it again a couple of weeks later, jumped it and had no problems for a couple more weeks. 2 days ago it did it again and now needs jumped everytime to start. What could it be? The starter? The Silonoid???

I figured out the problem myself FOR FREE!

All I can hear is the clicking sound. It hasn't started even after a jump, but I didn't give it much time. The battery reads fine, but it's 6 years old, so it might need replaced for its age. The lights and radio work. Was it the starter motor?

Have a 2004 5.3 Flex Fuel Tahoe, Battery was recently replaced with Optima Red Top, Within a couple days remote unlock would not work had no lights or power of any kind and had to jump start my truck. Truck will run for awhile but if left sitting will need to be jumped again. Not sure where to go from here, believe its either a bad alternator or less likely a bad starter but definitely need some guidance here

You need to listen and see if the clicking is from the relays in your fuse box, and if you can hear your starter clicking to engage. If you only hear it from your your fuse box, then I would say starter.

2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara won't start engine

what engine, state engine size and country.
there can only be 3 ways, to fail.
bad engine (low compresssion, us the $20 tool at WOT and see over 170psi.
Bad spark
bad fueling.
just because spark coils (COPS?) work on other car , dont mean much.
what counts is your car , its a system.
the cops, have fast 5mS pulse when firing, you using a scope to see that?
Im so curious, why not to the time old test, use a real spark plug
attached to the COP end, spark plug shell grounded to engine metal
and crank, is spark good x4? or x6 if V6 (engine NOT STATED)
is it? then spark is good, leaving fueling.
do not touch the spark plug cranking, it can hit 100,000 volts.
I use a ground strap on the spark plug casing, hands free, or you can be hurt bad, by the spark or when you jump and cut arm backing off
on cars that flood, is it flooding?
I found my engine compression good, then found all 4 sparks fire good.
so i pull the fuel pump relay. killing fueling.
i then use "test fuel" to start engine (again, text book tests)
I use the new CRC brand of test fuel with top end oiling.
i spray it in the plenum, and it starts.
if the spark plugs are bad, (part oftune it up)
it may not start if flooded,
use WOT at the throttle (cuts fuel) and start any flooded engine.
if the spark tips are black and stink of raw fuel (wet with fuel)
that means flooding.
pull the fuel pump relay ,test fuel runs for 3 seconds. each time.
3 second spray max. each time.
if that works out, then find reason for flooding if flooding.
if not flooding, you find dry sparks.
then trouble shoot no fuel.
fuel pressure not near 30 PS?
fuel pressure too high say, 60, it will flood for ever.
there are only 3 tests.
and 4 counting wet /dry sparks.
the tests done, will put you on the correct path every time.
no guessing, no swapping parts to other cars.

1999 suzuki grand vitara will not turn over, jumping starts the car, also vehicle was very low on oil, wondering if there is an oil sensor?

If jumping the car off starts it and it will keep running, then you have a bad battery and need to replace it. If it starts the car and it shuts off again, you need to replace your alternator.

As for the oil situation, make sure there isn't an oil leak. And it isn't likely that there's an oil sensor.

My power light is on. not ceck engine light but power light. what wrong with my car .it a 1999 grand vetarra

hi this will be your alternator, is it the battery light? if it is this is the sign that the alternator is now not charging your battery, you can test it by, sourcing a volt meter , and connecting the terminals to the battery, start the car up and let it idle, it should read between 12.5 and 13 volts, then rev engine to about 1500 2000 rpm, and it should be 14 to 14.5 volts if it is not reading this then your alternator needs to be replaced hope this helps please vote..

My gran vitara has trouble starting in the morning, when it has been sat all night, then the rest of the day it is fine, does it need clean filters??or is the battery wearing out?or any other ideas you can...

You have a defective battery. Overnight, it leaks off power. In the morning when you start it by jump starting (or a push) and it runs, the alternator will charge it, making it good the rest of the day. Then again the power will be drained overnight due to the shorted battery components.

Grand vitara radiator over heating

I have had brand new Thermostats that are bad. The way to check a thermostat is to boil it in water and see when it opens. You may need to have your radiator cleaned or roded out. You can also remove your thermostat and see what happens then I would start by flushing the system and see what you get.

Have an ongoing problem with a 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara 2000 16v If the car isn't started every day the battery discharges ... ... !!! Once the car has been jump started and left running for 5 minutes, it...

If you jump-started it and ran it for five minutes then it started fine, it's not the alternator. I would get an ammeter and check the current drain when everything is off (as it would be when the car is locked, armed, etc). I can't remember the exact figure I was once told, but it was of the order of 0.2 Amp (200mA). More than this, and batteries start getting drained progressively faster. The last car I had with this problem turned out to have a huge amplifier (sound system) that wasn't being switched off by the ignition or the stereo unit. Don't know how much it was drawing, but a cut-out feature on the ammeter saved it from having a meltdown.

2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara cranks but won't start

Most likely your timing chain.
This is a major problem 99 -05 V6 GV.
The Timing chain tensioner failed.
When the chain breaks it destroys the engine.
Unfortunately is an "Interference" engine.
This and the rear main seal are the big problems with these cars.

Electrical Problem with 1999 Subaru Legacy

hi there, your alternator is not putting out enough, subbies should put out about 14.4v and just after starting should put out 40-60amps. charge the batt that is in it now with a small (3.5-6amp) charger overnight then start the car and LOAD TEST the batt and alternator at a battery shop. ask them to put a carbon pile load tester on your system. im pretty sure they're gonna tell you its the alternator. many thanks, hope this helps!
