Question about 1998 Chevrolet Blazer

4-wheel high problem

Hi there,

I have a '98 Chevy Blazer and it won't lock into 4-wheel high. I do have 4 wheel low, though. When the problem was first starting, it would jump out of 4 high into 2 high. I would push the 4 high button and it would lock back into 4 high. Now when I push the 4 high button, nothing happens. Hmmm, what does this wound like to you?

My 98' Blazer will not go into 4HI from 2HI at all. In Neutral, if you press the 4HI switch, both the 4HI and 4LO lights will blink and it will switch to 2HI. In Neutral, if you press the 4LO switch, both the 4HI and 4LO light will blink, the 4LO light will come on and the vehicle will lock into gear.

Reset the 4x4 computer by pulling out the courtesy lamp fuse and the ATC fuse for 1 minute then reinstall both fuses then cycle the key on and off 5 times. if this works please rate.

have the actuator (mounted on the drivers side transfer case) checked. that is what makes the selection from 2-4 hi-4 low. it takes the place of a gear shift. they are a fairly inexpensive and easy repair (if thats the problem). i would start there providing you have checked the fuses and relays. i hope this helps.

I have a 1984 chevy blazer, i need to know how to put in 4 wheel drive and how to take it our of 4 wheel drive. thank you

full size blazer? if so do you know if you have auto locking hubs on front or manual? the manual will have a dial to turn to lock or free. to shift into 4 high this can be done by just moving the shifter into 4hi at slow speeds. to shift into 4lo need to be in nuetral with vehicle stopped or rolling just a little bit like 1-2mph shift into 4 lo and shift back into drive same when shifting back into 2hi from low range.

I have a 98 chevy blazer with the 4wheel stuck in high

You will see the motor move when you engage the switch on the dash. The motor is on the bottom of the transfer case behind the transmission. Most likely it's the actuator for the hub lockouts under the battery tray. They wear out after a few years. It could also be the cable that locks the hubs that goes from the actuator to the hub lock in the front differential. Also, check your front differential oil level, if it's not getting oil it won't disengage. Check to make sure the hoses between the transfer case and the actuator are not leaking. If that isn't the case there is a air activated switch ont he top of the transfer case where the air hoses plug into, it has three hoses that go to it. That switch screws in but you have to lower the transmission cross member to get to it. It could also be bad, it costs about twelve dollars. Good luck.

When push button for 4 wheel drive the front end want ingage and the button just keeps flashing

Have you tried putting it in Neutral, then selecting 4-low. That's what we have to do on our 2000 Chevy Blazer. Same with going from 4-low to 4-high or 4-low to 2 high. It will shift from 2-high to 4 high on the fly (not in Neutral) and back.
