Question about 2004 GMC Canyon

1 Answer

Ignition problems My 2004 GMC Canyon 2.8L 4 cyl. 5 speed. has a starting problem that happens about twice/week. the engine would crank but will not turn over. After the 12th or 13th try of cranking it over it finaly fires over and the engine is running fine, my guess is that it has to do with the fuel delivery at start up, possably to do with what GM installed in the vehical called a Passlock system that cuts off the fuel if the wrong key is being used but I'm not for sure.

Try locking and unlocking the doors three times slowly, this often works on cars with immobilisers, other than that try changing the fuel pump and putting a separate earth to one of the small connectors on the relay, check for power and earth the other ,this will by pass the alarm/cut out.If this is a bit beyond you then take to garage and become a golden egg donor.cant tell you where relays or anything else on this vehicle as i have never seen here in spain

My 2004 (5 cyl) GMC Canyon Truck starts fine, then runs for awhile and quits. Sometimes has to be jumped before restarting. I had the alternator and battery tested and was told it shows reason code...

I'm wondering if you're losing computer power at the battery.
I have a GMC (older model) that has a "side mount screws" on the battery instead of posts.
Not sure of your battery configuration...but if all those wires connected to the (+) terminal at the battery get dirty or corroded in any way...you'll get the problems you are getting.

I'd clean battery terminals real well to see if this helps...
(I converted my GMC to accept batteries with top posts...like I said, not sure of what you have.)

Hope this helps...

you probably have corrosion in the power train control module and connector.it is located under the hood on the passenger side on the fire wall.remove the connectors from the module and clean the connectors and module with a soft brush and spray them with electrical cleaner.i have seen this problem before.

Our 2004 GMC canyon will not start from time to time.

sell the truck and get one that does not have the security system that locks out the engine starting. I wish I could but I can't for a year or so.

Fan blower motor

The Canyon has an inherint problem with the Fan Power cable being loose. When I say loose...I'm saying that you need to adjust the wires and then take a zip strip to tighten it up.

Passenger side under the dask are 2 cable hook ups. the one on the farthest right (Only 2 wires going to the plug) is the fan power cable. Jiggle it while the fan is on position number3 so you can hear when it comes on!!!
