Question about 1998 Jaguar XJ8L
Jaguar xj8 heating not working i have checked all fuses and okay the light panel for heating doesnt seem to operate
Are you having trouble getting the fan to blow, or does it blow cold air? If cold air, be sure to first check the coolant level as this could cause no heat for the cabin, and can also cause expensive damage to your engine.
If the coolant level is good, it can be a number of things:
There is a control valve in the engine compartment that opens and closes to allow hot water to travel through the heater core. Check for proper operation of this valve.
Secondly, on some of the Jaguars, they were filled with a special coolant that is not compatible with off the shelf coolants. If normal coolant was added to the system without a TOTAL flush, then the two coolants would mix and cause a coagulation. This thickening would in turn plug the heater core.
Lastly, on some Jaguars, there is an auxiliary electric water pump in the engine compartment that pumps the water through the heating system. If this pump fails, then you would get a LITTLE heat once in a while, (especially when high revs, or on a warmer day). This pump is fairly expensive, (what isn't on the Jag), but easy to replace.
Good luck, and let us know what it ends up being.
